Re: What are your 3 most used eyepieces?

Posted By Bob Chan

I actually have 4 - 31mm, 26mm, 20mm Naglers and 14mm Meade Ultra Wide Angle. I use them in a 10" Meade Equatorial Starfinder, 12" LX-200 and 17.5" Discovery Truss Tube.

Ethos: I Took The Plunge

Posted By Bob Chan

Rod, You are going to love the view you get with the Ethos. That is what happened with me when I saw the 13mm with Uncle Al at RTMC in 2007. I shook hands with him, congratulated him on his latest optical achievement and told him that I knew that my wallet was going to be much lighter once he started selling them. I only have the 8mm and 13mm at present. I thought that the 6mm and 10mm would be too close to the 8mm and 13mm. I decided to wait and go for a larger focal length than the 17mm. I will probably purchase the 21mm in the next few months.

10 MM Ethos Report

Posted By Bob Chan

See Rod, What did we tell you? Now you know what you were missing. Problem is, there are 5 more in the Ethos series. I have the 8mm and 13mm, but I am saving up for the 21mm once it is more readily available.

C8 counterweight?

Posted By Bob Chan

Brent, I use a counterweight system that I think was made by Losmandy. It has a rail that is mounted to the bottom of the optical tube and a sliding counterweight system that you can add other threaded counterweights to. I bought mine from Oceanside Photo and Telescope, Check with Anacortes first though since they sponsor Astromart.

Safty "button?" On counter weight shaft

If you can't find the correct part, you could always use a fender washer with a bolt. That is what I did on my Meade Starfinder.

A fender washer is a oversized washer but with a smaller hole.

I have been on the waiting list since 1999 also. Originally I was on the list for a Traveler, but I wouldn't mind getting a 130.

Wins the 2009 World Series

I can't stand the Yankees! I hope they get their rear ends handed to them. Any time they need a All Star, they go and buy one. I hate that. My team can't keep their stars! Go Phillies!

Jon, I agree completely! I can't stand how they just spend money to make a great team. Where as our teams have to do it the hard way and build their teams up through the draft. If and when the Yankees lose, I hope Steinbrenner can hear me laughing from California.

Scope storage?... They don't make Ziplocs that big!

Posted By Bob Chan

Go visit a engine machine shop, they have large plastic bags for cylinder heads and complete engines.  Good luck.
