Inspired!Glad you got around to posting a picture.
The footprint and base look quite elegant and right.
Sturdy too.
Is it gravity,mostly, that holds it down to the eq. plane,or do the "what do you call'em" rod rigging like straps to the trunnion axes play a part?
Is collimation a problem at all when rotating the focus assembly ?

3D,stereo,never appears to excite much of a response here in the forums,and yet binoviewers are the 'must have' accessory of today,which proves that people are still aware that two eyes are useful.
I was passing and had to have a looksee.Great!
Now let me be slightly critical,not that I'm capable of pulling anything like this off,but,to my eyes,the moon you've crafted appears to be only half a sphere and rises from off the screen O.K. but seems not to possess any depth,or rotundity below it.Similarly with your starry background.
As I understand it,you will be able to get your background way back,...over there,beyond,.. somewhere,somehow!
It's related,and,on the offchance that you may have missed it,I've posted an APOD from a few weeks ago which I thought was near perfect.It can be done.
This is a red'n blue view I'm afraid.Phobos.

I'm only butting in here to declare that it's just(..just!)possible to freeview in parallel any pair of this great mosaic in stereo.Because of the scale I have to hold my laptop at arms length.I imagine it would be a struggle with bigger screens.

Great stereo!
Just a note to record my appreciation of another great stereo you planetary imagers knock out every now and again.I often wonder if any of you are aware of the fact that a lot of your posts of,how'd you call'em?..'time lapse images',also turn out to be great stereos.
This one is a great 'free view' displaying good rotundity on Jupe' and spectacular relief of,Io (is it?) and shadow.
I have a look in this forum often enough,but never note any comments on the quality of the stereos.
As a non imager I feel a bit of a gate crasher butting in here,but,as I enjoy all of your pictures so much, thought it worth a mention.

I recently got 'double stacked' with my Maxscope 40 and another SM40 on the end.I read that the way to go was to get the ghost out of the way with the front T-Max and tune with the rear.
Needless to say,contrarily,I've found that for the most sublime detail,I wind the rear back to its stop,closing the cell effectively,then de-ghost with the front and carry on the rotation until all the details snaps together.Virtually the opposite stop.Cell cranked nearly all the way open.
The detail is remarkable.Aside from filament,I find plage to be intense in whiteness.Incredibly prominences,unless exceptionally developed or ejected,are almost of secondary interest!
Well,that's a bit of an exaggeration,but,you know what I mean.

I'm not sure if this will answer your question as to whether the exposed chrome lip is meant to be there,but it's there on my T2/20 Nagler too. Until you declared your angst about it I've never given it a thought,but I would suspect it's there on all of them.
