PAINTBRUSH good enough for cleaning lenses????

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello fellow astronomers. I have been looking all over for a camel’s hair brush to clean the my telescope’s mirror and corrector plate from dust. Haven’t had any luck, I found one painting brush made of camel’s hair but I feel it too hard, but I run into an other painting brush that is real soft, extremely soft, fells like a feather but it is made of syntactic fiber, and also I am considering those make up brushes women use made of natural hair which is very soft . My question is: does it have to be a camel’s hair brush or can I use either one of theses?.

Thanks and clear skies.

meade $99 ep, same quality as the celes $99 ep?

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello all, I ordered the $99 meade eyepiece deal and the $99 celestron eyepiece deal too. I have heard the meade eyepieces are really good, but are the celestron as good as the meades? Are them in the same quality range as the super plossl 4000 series?.

Thanks, and clear skies.

PRIMARY MIRROR ON LXD55 BECAME LOOSE

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello, I took my telescope to a star party this weekend, and my dad
didn't care too much about driving carefully, when I inspected the
OTA I noticed that the back cell that attaches the primary mirror to
the collimation ring, se pic, was becoming loose, should I remove the
primary mirror from the OTA to glue this or should just glue it with
out removing the primary mirror, I was thinking about gluing with a
SuperBonder, those fast drying glues that are small and bond very
strong. Should I use this type of glue?, or is out there one that is
better?. If I do have to remove the primary how do I do so?, do I
have to mark where the screws go to or there is no need to put them
right where they were?, also what Allen key should I use for this,
the fine one that came with the telescope doesn't work. And also I noticed the primary mirror is not exactly centered with the ring it is attached to, maybe because of the movement, should I dissasemble and fix this?, or do I run and risk on doing so?

Thank you. Ricardo R. Amador

NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello all, I noticed the primary mirror in my LXD55 SN is some mm to one side than the other, please see drawing bellow, it seems it moved when I took it to a star party this weekend, is this normal even if there is rough handling?, it also has very small chips besides the every clip that keeps the mirror in place, only seen when I light it with a lantern. My question is should I open the OTA to fix this? Or just by collimating the scope can I solve it?. My telescope is very well collimated, I Can see pin point stars but when I look at Jupiter or brighter stars there appears to be a comma at 30x magnification (I only have the 26mm eyepiece). Also the back of the mirror that has like a protective cell is loose, what glue do you recommend me?, is there a black very resistant type of glue???, If I have to fix it, what precautions should I take for taking the mirror out?

thank you and clear skies

Do I really need to clean my mirror, please help

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello all, I opened my schimidt newtonian around 2 months ago, because I thought it moved durind a travel I did to a star party. I noticed some dots so I cleaned it. well got it worse, now there appears to be a fogged area, that looks just like the one in the drawing, I dont know if it is oil residue from my hands or powder of the glove I used. I notice no difference in my seeings, and I really dont want to clean it again, last time I made a long but thin scratch on the coatings of the mirror. Would this fogged area affect my view, should I clean it? or should I leave as it is, could this make my telescope gather less light?

Thanks a lot.

Help please, need your advice!!!

Posted By Ricardo Amador

Hello all, I live In Nicaragua central america and my lat is 12.4 N so i have to put my 8" Lxd55 newtonian scope quite down, the problem is that if I try to balance the scope the weights keep hitting the tripods leg. I saw in a takahashi a friend of mine has he could rotate the legs to avoid this problem, in mine I can't, any ideas on what can I do?, perhaps adding an extra weight so I can put all the weight higher.

Thanks and clear skies
