Saturn 01/26/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here is Saturn from last night (01/26/04) actually morning on 10/27/04 UT. Didn't think seeing was all that great, but I guess it fooled me.

Had so much fun taking the image the previous night I decided to do it again last night. It's probably not as good as 2 nights ago, but still acceptable. smile

Here are the three planets I shot last night and this morning. Jupiter, Saturn and Mars all shot at F/25 with my C8. Nice contrast in size!!

Saturn and 5 lunar shots...[L]

Posted By Paul Maxson

Last night was one of the better seeing nights I have had in a while. I got to imaging features on the moon and almost couldn't stop!! When seeing is that good, you just want to keep going. Anyway, here are 5 images of the moon. All shot with my C8 with a Celestron Shorty 2x barlow (a great barlow for objects almost straight over head on an Alt-Az scope. Also, a Saturn that shows a nice white spot just left of center. As you would expect, today is totally cloudy, windy and miserable (for Phoenix, that is). Also, the C11 is due in Monday, so you KNOW it's going to be lousy for at least 4-5 days around here...

C11 wobbly?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Is it my imagination, or does the C11 GPS seem a bit wobbly on the supplied tripod? I have the C8 and just got the C11 and the C11 seems a little wobbly on that tripod. Is there a heavier tripod for the C11, if I wanted to go that way?

You know, of course, that the skies haven't been cooperative since the C11 arrived...LOL!!

Thermal equilbrium ideas

Posted By Paul Maxson

I just got a C11 to compliment my C8. So far the C11 has given really bad images. First it was collinimation...I'm almost there on that. Naturally as soon as the big scope arrived, seeing has been terrible...goes without saying, right?? smile Anyway, I have heard that it takes about 2 hrs for the C11 to come to thermal equilibrium. I'm wondering what is the best way to store the scope before I observe. With the C8 I just leave it covered outside in the backyard. Should I put the C11 tube assy in the house all day out of the direct sun and take it out after the backyard is in full shade, should I wait longer? I could put it on a full shaded patio outside for most of the day, then move it to the backyard. I do 95% ccd imaging, so that would be a factor as well.

Any ideas, personal experience....??

Thanks!! This group is always quite helpful!!
