Check the RoboScope group on Yahoo. They have lots of detailed info on adding the Meade Autostar to a variety of non-GOTO mounts.

I believe that ads remain on the Anacortes server for a short timeframe (weeks?), even if the seller has deleted. I've had this situation happen to me a few times ... but doing a search of the seller's name under User Ratings produces a link showing that I've responded to the ad and can leave feedback. Clicking on the link brings me to the original ad ...

Give it a try.

I like Atom Time. It's a little program that will help keep your PC clock in sync with the atomic clock in Boulder, CO.

They also sell regular clocks these days that basically do the same thing. They listen to a special radio frequency that carries the official US time and will keep in sync.

Dobs will be your best bang for the buck. Buying used here on AM is also a good way to get the most for your money. Here's one 8" Discovery at a good price ... and you still have some change left for another eyepiece or two.

Build a small eyepiece collection - suggestions?

You might consider a zoom eyepiece and a barlow. I recently bought a 7.4-22mm zoom from Apogee. These are supposedly made by Nikon. I use it on my TV-85 and find it does a very good job for the price - $50. The FOV is rather narrow at the low end (40*), but expands nicely at the higher powers. I use it mainly in the 11-7.4mm range on the moon/planets. Combine this with a 2 or 3x barlow and you'd pretty much have the usable range for the 80ED covered. You could also get a 32mm plossl for low power / wide field viewing. All three of these would be about $110.

Best mount for Televue 85 ?

I have my TV-85 mounted on a Unistar Light Alt/Az from Universal Astronomics. It works very well, including at the zenith ... even at higher powers. I've been out in my backyard frequently with this setup the past few months watching the Jupiter/Saturn/Venus show. This setup, mounted on a light aluminum tripod (mine is from a Meade LXD55), is easily portable. I basically keep it covered in the garage and it's ready to go in the one minute it takes me to carry it out back.

Although I have no personal experience, but based on what I've read, I think you would get similiar results for the same $$$ with a Giro-2 mount.
