Question, Which mount to buy?

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I am getting ready to upgrade my mount. At this time I have a CI700 with a C11 and 80mm piggybacked. I CCD with a ST7&CFW8, flipmirror, etc. The CI700 is actual doing some
what OK, but it is maxed out. Iwant to evenually move up to a C14 and my 102ed,(piggybacked or side mounted,Which?)
I think that a G11 wouldn't be much of a difference then the CI700, so I am considering the Losmandy Titan GTO or maybe the MI 250 GTO ( I figure I might as well go GoTo at the time of upgrade) The mount will be installed on a pier in my observatory so all I need is the head. I'm trying to stay somewhere around $5000 (or less if possable, less meams I can get the C14 sooner!) Does anyone have any other models in mind and what do you think of buying used? Thanks for any info, Tom

What would I need ???

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I am wondering what I would need to mount my Vixen GP dovetail plate to a CI700 mount? Would it be a Losmandy DUP or is there another way to do it. I want to be able to easily switch between my C11 scope and my vixen 102ed for photography and imaging. Thanks for any help, Tom

Losmandy Titan or MI250 mounts?

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I know that the new Titan is pretty new and the MI250 is tried and true but has any one had the chance to use these two mounts? and can you give some feedback on them. I see that the Titan is rated for 100# and the MI250 at 75# but by looking at the specs of the mounts, they seem to be about the same. Heads weigh about the same. Both use Losmandy gears, and Gemini GoTo. IT looks like the MI250 uses larger gears then the Titan.
I'm looking for a large mount for CCD imaging but the more I look the more I seem to continue to look!!
Thanks, Tom

What's wrong with this picture??

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I'm having problems processing this image of M27 that I took last week. It's RGB only (when I add the L layer it really gets out of wack (stars really turn gold) It is Red-300,G-300,B-300, using a ST2000xm camera and a C11 tube.I'm stll a real newby at this CCD imaging, I know once in a while people like to play with images on the forum. PLEASE go for it!!! Thanks, Tom

Finally tried a Toucam

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Well, I finally found a inexspensive used Toucam and got to try it out last night. Ihave tried to image planets with my St2000 several times, but the results were not very good. I am really blown away with this web cam imaging!!! It is so much easier then a conventional CCD camera. I think with some practice I will get some of those images that people are posting on here! Anyway, This is with a Toucam 740 thru a C11 at F20. 249 frames out of 336. Thanks for looking, Tom

Can someone identify?

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi, I took this picture thru my upstairs window with my Kodak DX4900. This guy was sitting right outside. Can anyone identify it? Is it some kind of a immature hawk?
I tried to find it in my Peterson field guide but I'm not sure. Thanks, Tom

CI700 manual slo-mo modifications

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi All, Does anyone remember a website pertaining to modification of the manual slow motion controls on a Celestron CI700 mount. It had something to do with tightening down the clutches when manual knobs were not being used so that the gears engaged more smoothly (or something like that) Does this ring a bell to anyone?
Thanks, Tom
