Saturn from the Humble Telescope

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

Seeing was pretty good, after 40+ days of rain we'll take what we can get.

Omcon 4.5" newtonian f/7 with 2.8 klee barlow.

The moon is a mosaic.

How do you combine videos for processing in regist

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

We have not yet completed our equatorial platform for use with our Orion XT 10. Currently our CCD videos are limited to approximately 75 to 130 frames exposed while the planet passes through the field of view. Images are then processed from a single video. I have admired images posted that have been derived from multiple videos. Would someone please describe how to use more than one video to process an image in registax.I sure appreciate this forum. grin

Where to find parts for CG4/EQ3 mount?

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

I recently purchased an EQ 3-2 Synta mount minus a counterweight and accesory tray. Is there an online shop that sells parts for these mounts? Also, it's missing a little screw on the end of the counterweight bar.

Thanks for your help.

low res moon and saturn

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

So happy to get out tonight with decent seeing.

Omcon 114 mm newt @ ~f14
IBM PC Pro camera
Registax
Saturn:~150 frames
Moon:~30 frames

enjoy.

I could kill (relative to the 4.5") with an orion 6" f8 which I have decided will be my next scope. I currently have 2 EQ3/CG4 mounts if anyone is interested in a possible trade. Guess I'm cross posting, sorry.

Last years Mars revisited

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

Hi all,

I recently sold my 4.5" Omcon to a friend and I am currently scope less. I am interested in a slow reflector, maybe a 6" or 8" F8. Send me a PM.

The weather has been poor and combined with no telescope I have been reduced to looking at old files. This is my best mars with the Omcon taken at around the same time last year.

I always enjoy looking at the amazing photos on this site.

Sincerely,

Andrew

Saturn with the new C8

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

Hi all,

I am very pleased with the second hand C8 that I have recently acquired. I believe the scope is a mid 90's model with a little sticker on top that says starbright. It is so nice to go out and point the telescope at an object and have it stay there. I still do miss my little Omcon with its bright color and sharp views.

The seeing was the best so far this year. It must have been 3 out of 5. Other nights that I have gone out the atmosphere has been very tumultuous. Any one else from the North West?

Date: 11:30 PM PST 02/02/07
Telescope: C8 with fork mount RA drive
Barlow: University 2.8x Klee (F28)
Camera: Logitech Fusion
Capturing Software: VirtualDub 1.7.0
Processing Software: Rexistax 4.0
Frames Stacked: ~200

I have also scaled the image down to 75% of its original size. I believe my focus was just off the mark. My collimation might have been off a bit but very close.

***edit***
I have reprocessed this again today and probably over-processed but, what can you do? Not rescaled.

Mars from my front yard Oct. 13/07

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

Hi all,

Just finished processing some video from last night. The sky was steady and clear and I was able to get a nice view of mars. I just wish he'd show up earlier.

8" Celestron SCT
2.8x Klee barlow
Logitech 3000 webcam

low cost binoviewers for high power viewing?

Posted By Andrew Amundrud

Recently there has been a lot of interest and information on using binoviewers. Can you actually see more with two eyes? Some premium BV users have said that when using larger aperture scopes they can see MORE than when using a single eyepiece. Some have said they can see as much at 200X with a BV as they can at 300X with a single eyepiece? What about the current selection of low cost BVs, are they useful for detailed observing? University Optics, for example, offers their BV with Tak colimation and matched orthoscopics. Is there a place for these BVs other than for a low power 3D effect?
