Threaded spacers 5mm or so

Posted By Jeff Seivert

I have a little problem. I need about 5mm of space between my .8 focal reducer/flattener and my T Ring.

The male threads on the reducer are about 5mm long and the female threads on the T Ring are more than that (not an issue).

The problem is that any thin spacer in the 2mm - 4.5mm range can't fully seat the 5mm of the reducer threads, adding the difference to the total space.

e.g. 2mm spacer threads 1.4mm of the reducer in, resulting in 5.6mm of overall space.

So how do I get another 5mm of space in there?

Thanks for any info!

Jeff

iOptron Tri Pier vs 2" Tripod

Posted By Jeff Seivert

The iOptron Tri Pier weighs 25.8 lbs and has a max payload of 220 lbs. The 2" Steel tripod weighs 17.1 lbs and has a max payload of 300 lbs.

I'm just curious why there's such a big difference in payloads.

Also, is the Tri Pier that much more stable that it would cost twice as much as the tripod? It also seems like the 3" range on leg adjustment might be a bit of a limit too. So what's the main advantage of the Tri Pier?

Thanks for any insight,
Jeff

Is it worth it? 1.25" diag vs 2" diag for an 8" SC

Posted By Jeff Seivert

Thanks to all for the input. I'm going with a 2" diag and 2" 32mm ep from scopestuff (Antares models). I'll post the results of my little experiment once I get a chance to use them.

Man, there's a lot of stuff to learn, f ratio's focal lengths, almost took my eye out measuring my pupil against an exit pupil 8O . (kidding)

Best wishes to all.

Threaded spacers 5mm or so

Thanks, I have tried the Internet of course. I purchased a 2mm ring but there aren't enough threads to engage the t ring. Still looking.
