24 Panoptic / 22 Vixen Lanthanum Superwide

I'm Binoviewing with 14mm Pentax XL's with excellent result's at the moment. If my search to find another 21 XL to go with the one I have, fails, the 24 Pan's or the Vixen 22 SW's are the next plan. I wear thin glasses, 15mm of ER may be alittle tight with the Pans. I'm not sure. Would the 22 Vixen's be worthwhile alternitive's to the Panoptic's?. I have looked through neither. Maybe my Pentax 21mm XL is worth just keeping the search going for a mate no matter how long it takes. Any thought's?. ..Thanks BG

To clean or not to clean ?

My Tak FS 78 is less than two year's old. I have alway's kept all cap's on when not in use. I have noticed that when I look at the objective in direct light from a window, that the lens just looks filthy. It seem's to be covered with hundreds of little shiny spot's that do not come off. I have alway's babied this thing. Could these be water marks from cold winter observing?. My other Synta refractors do not have these mark's. Do I need to get my little FS in for a cleaning as soon as possible?. Any comments on this would be GREAT as I'm starting to stress out. Thanks...BG

C11 on a Unistar Deluxe

I'm thinking of putting a C11 OTA on my Unistar Deluxe with a Bogen 3058. I believe a C11 with my Binoviewer would be pretty close to the limit. My Bogen can handle 44 lbs and the Unistar is rated at 30 lbs. I believe the 11" OTA weighs around 27 lbs. Is anybody doing this?. My C8 with Binoviewer on this setup is rock stable. I figure just another 13 lbs or so. What do you think????...BG

Dark Mountain Skies!!!

The last couple nights here have been about as good as it gets. The jet stream is up north in Montana, and has left us with transparent primo skies. Used the new 21 XL's in the Binoviewer with the 8" SCT, and the Tak, and my 120 F/8.3. Wow is the word. Looked at M3, M13; cruised all around Canes and the Dipper; and did the Virgo "grand tour". Ended up over at Lyra and split the double double at 85X cleanly with the Synta!. And it was even a warm 45 Degree's. Summer is here!...( Even though their calling for snow this coming Thursday )

Last night viewing M17 at 3 a.m. in my 8" scopes; I am again amazed with my Binoviewer. The nebula clouds stretching across the field with various Nebula filters is simply breathtaking. I sure hope you guy's are taking a break from all of your analyzing to get out in the wee hour's to view scorpius and sagittarius as they rise. I must say that this forum is BORING. Nobody post's any viewing reports with their Binoviewers. Personally, I would find that very enjoyable reading. Not to mention helpful and entertaining. I can't believe I'm getting bored with this Forum . 8O

Hi Harry. A Zoom does sound attractive. In mono mode, I very much enjoyed my Zoom eyepieces. Just the thought of being able to zoom in on Globular clusters with my Binoviewer is making my mouth water. A couple questions.

1) Will your Zoom work with my 1.25" Denkmeier?. Does it connect to the Binoviewer itself?. Making all of my OCS's obsolete?.

2)Would I have to send my Denkmeier or an OCS to you for fitting ?. Is it something that I can install?

3) Will it function just like a mono mode Zoom eyepiece?

JMI NGC-MAX on Unistar Deluxe

Thinking about entering the digital age. I never have used DSC's before. But,I must admit, squinting at my star chart under a red light in the dark is starting to get old. UA will install the NGC-MAX on my Unistar for around $720 complete. That's quite the chunk of change for me, so I would love to hear feedback from the user's of the JMI's. I did a search for this topic, but nothing came up, so any thoughts would be great.

When I have something posted on the classifieds, I do not come on the forums and promote it for current or future financial purposes. I believe I'm prevented from that by the terms of service 13.1. Harry has deleted a few lines the last couple day's, but still his post's, I feel are crossing the fine line between entertainment of a chat room and business. My .02$.

WO 2" dielectric SCT mirror diagonal

I have been trying like the dickens to find one of these. Everybody has them listed, but backorders are running two months. Is this a new product that just has not been released yet?, or is it just a hot item. I have found the 2" WO standard 97% reflectivity diagonal in stock. I understand with a Televue SCT adapter, I can use this in my SCT's. I guess another question would be, do I just wait for two months for the 99% SCT dielectic or go with the 97% standard with adapter. I'm not even sure what possible difference there could be with 2% difference. This would be used on a 9.25 SCT w/ binoviewer on a Unistar. Any thoughts would be great...Thanks.

Is it my imagination?

I recently got a 2" William Optics diagonal to replace my 1.25" Televue Everbrite for my SCT/Binoviewer. I used it last night for the first time and noticed that something was different. With the power switch it looked like I was getting lower magnifications than with the 1.25 everbrite. I'm no optics expert, so I was wondering if the larger diagonal was placing the binoviewer further away from the scope, and that was lowering the magnification. Could that be a possibility?. Anyway the view was very pleasent; just looked to be a little lower magnification. 8O
