Takahashi Micro focuser

I'm thinking of purchasing the Tak micro focuser at $190 for my FS78. I would rather have the Starlight version but Starlight Instruments they told me they have not made one for the FS78 yet. Maybe in the future. Any comments on the Tak unit? Thanks in advance. Terry.

Nikon Zoom EP - anyone tried it

I've got a Nikon Fieldscope zoom (20-45x) eyepiece that I use in my ED Fieldscope. It will fit into a standard .965 adaptor fairly well so I can use it in my 1.25" diagonals. It is an excellent eyepiece. I believe this is the same eyepiece that Markus modifies.

4" refractor to 5" refractor

I was considering the same thing after observing with a 6" Celestron refractor. I have a truly excellent 4" f8 TMB in the Vixen tube. This scope performs superbly but it's still a 4 incher so I contacted Thomas Back and was put on the waiting list for his 5" f8 achromat refractor. It should be excellent too. I picked his achromat simply because the APO's are way out of my price league and Thomas said the achromat will really perform too.

Most disappointing telescope purchase.

For me the most disappointing telescopes were a couple Celestron black-tube C8's that I bought new in the early 1990's and a Stellarview AT1010 I bought early last year.
The C8's had bad mirror shift and average optics. I don't think I'll ever purchase a Schmidt again.
As for the Stellarview AT1010 it was advertised as triple checked. Mine was not. It had a too large focuser that was adapted to the tube, lots of aluminum shavings inside the tube (probably from turning down the wrong size focuser), pinched optics and crooked stickers. I spent a whole day correcting the pinched optics and after that the scope worked well. But this scope was supposed to be triple checked.....I guess it slipped through.

I believe Orion's ED80 may be one big reason the AT1010 is on sale. Their $429 80mm ED scope is a better buy than an 80mm achromat that sells for $499. I'm expecting my ED80 to arrive today after a months wait.
