Slight improvement in Results from my 130mm Orion

Posted By Jeff Green

Imaged Jupiter last night at around Midnight in NC. I was able to use my 2-3x barlow as a helical focuser for fine focus. I have been unable to get things into focus until recently.

trying to find Uranus

Posted By Jeff Green

Hey guys,

I have moved to Nashville TN and am getting used to the skys. But I have been trying to locate Uranus with no luck. It is at 5.8 Mag give or take I think, So it is not going to be naked eye for me here. But I am unable to see it in my Binocs (15x80) and was unable to identify it with my 8" orion reflector. I have been using Stary Night Backyard as my map.

What should I be looking for. I have found where I think it should be using Fomalhaut as my starting point. And then following Aquarius up to where it should be. But nothing that looks even remotely like a planet. I have read that at Hi mag(150x) I should be able to at least get a disk. But should it be this hard. Or am I mistaken?

Any help with what to look for or how to recognize it would be greatly appreciated...

Question about Mcnaught...

Posted By Jeff Green

Does anyone know where there is an explanation for why it swapped for northern to southern hemispere viewing? I know it is probably simple and just a matter of geometry. But I would like to understand the full reason.

thanks
