Better CCD Camera, Mallincam Hyper Color OR Orion

Posted By mike selz

Im interested in getting into deep sky astrophotography from my boca raton fla residence..with a Nexstar 11. ive done visual work on many of the Messier objects the last 6 months but looking to take the plunge for AP...

Looking for something that will give really good images, yet is fairly easy to use. Would an Orion starshoot Pro, or a Mallincam Hyper Plus be preferred? Im interested in astrophotography, as well as seeing the live images taken on the laptop immediately after an exposure. I dont have a wedge, would prefer to do 30-60 sec exposures and just stack them for the time being and have fun playing with that. Ill get a f 6.3 or 3.3 focal reducer if need be...or even the hyperstar f1.9 if that'll help, even though the 3.3/6.3 would cost much less..

Any suggestions?
Thanks! smile

Good beginning CCD camera?

Posted By mike selz

Hey guys...im new to the AP forum. Looking for a beginning CCD camera...something that is easy to use...yet can give me good DSO's, with no auto guiding or wedge for the moment being (i suppose I can autoguide without a wedge, if need be, if that isnt too hard) ..but with 30 second subs to stack, and possibly a f 6.3 or 3.3 reducer. I heard the Orion starshoot II color and meade DSI II color work well for this purpose..what do you guys recommend to a beginner on a budget? I have a nexstar 11 and i live in suburbia (south fla), under mag 2-3 skies id guess. Appreciate all and any info smile

White screen when webcam hooked up :(

Posted By mike selz

I just bought a SPC900NC off astromart...installed the softwre CD..and using AstroCapture to control it...worked beutifully when I used it indoors without a telescope..but when I put on the adapter and hooked it up to the telescope...I looked at trees maybe 1000 feet away through a glass window, and had a white screen...wasnt able to get it to focus...focusing from infinity to close focus and still nothing. Any suggestions? The guy I bought it from told me it was modified..
thanks

First EVER Astrophotography Planetary photos :D

Posted By mike selz

Here's a few pics of my first ever AP photos...of solar system objects...was able to view the moon...venus...and saturn through my Philips SPC900NC webcam, attached to a Nexstar11. Processed them in registax. I think I underexposed the moon a little..thus the orangish tint (i think)..these are at F/10...didnt use a barlow because I felt my scope was at really high power already lol

Let me know what y'all think! Suggestions welcome smile
