M 101 4" TMB - being blown away...

Posted By dietmar hager

hi friends,

on satrurday night another storm was blowing across the country, clearing up the athmosphere and causing a terrific transparency.

seeing of course was very bad then, the stars were growing to kind of snowballs and this gave me a hard time to bring them back to "normal size"...
autoguiding was impossible - I had never encountered that before.
the guidestar was bouncing around on the chip, leaving weird patterns and the focus was very hard to find.

nevertheless I wanted to image a bit and so I used the 4" Tmb and captured M 101 for some 2 hours.

data on the image:

M101
4" TMB Apo f/6,2
SXV M25C
2 hours (4min and 8 min subframes - unguided)
AA4, PS CS2, PixIS LE
seeing 1-2/10
transparency 8-9/10 !!!

comments appreciated.

hi folks,

I have images M 106 in two very different nights.
in the first one I had a terrific transparency of 8-9/10; seeing was less well with 5/10
in the second night it was almost the other way around.
seeing was very good with 7/10 and transparency only 5-6/10

hi guys,

last night seeing was really good! 6-7/10.
transparency was o.k. with 6-7/10

I always wanted to try the black eye galaxy and considered as to be very difficult.
well, I must admit - the dynamic range near the core is...demanding.
and colors are
"thin"...

hi!

this famous lion`s galaxy as part of the even more famous triplett fascinates each time I observe it visually:
its conelike "ears" look terrific in the bino-adapter and one can detect some details within the dustlane.
this time it was time to capture it:

seeing was really good last night, but transparency was not as good as the nights before...

hi guys,

finally 2 fine nights - yeahhh!
so I was able to test SXV H16 and the fingerlake filterwheel with astronomik filters.
seeing and transparency was very good 7/10

9" TMB Apo f/9
SXV H16
Fingerlake wheel - astronomik filters
2,7 hours luminance 1x1 bin
2 hours each color channel 2x2 bin

NGC 4449

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

last night we had exceptinal good transparency and average seeing.
so I decided to go for the irregular galaxy ngc 4449
so many different interpretations for colors in this galaxy are seen in the web,...I wonder why.
some things seem to be certain.

here is what I got:
9" TMB Apo f/9
SXV H16
seeing 5-6/10
transp 8/10
3 hours luminance (2,4,8,12 minutes)
6x9 min R
6x5 min G
6x10 min B
(colors 2x2 bin)

the wale SXV H16 vs SXV M25C

Posted By dietmar hager

hi people,

2 extraordinary good nights opened the oportunity to once more compare monochrom CCD and M25Color.

I think You all will be surprised ... abit.

seeing was 8/10 and transp also.
it was great fun to handle the equipment under such almost perfect conditions.
I had a great time ...(-:

first of all let me introduce my final result:

ngc4631
9" TMB Apo f/7 (0,8TeleVue reducer)
SXV M25Color
3 hours (10, 15 minutes subframes)
AstroArt4 (image acqu. autoguiding and preprocessing)
PS CS2, PixInsight LE postprocessing.
seeing and trans 8/10

a small preview:
http://tinyurl.com/2jj25t

1500x:
http://tinyurl.com/32juca

2000x:
http://tinyurl.com/38q5hh

You`ll find full resolution here:
http://stargazer.christelhager.info/sonic/index.html

now take a look onto this image.
it`s a comparsion between luminance taken with
H16 mono 9"TMB Apo f/9
3 hours

CCD sharp - 2 iterations deconvol. and highpass filter (masking)

and
pseudoluminance taken with M25C (see above)
extracted with channel maixer (1ß%r,80%g,10%b)

the image:
http://tinyurl.com/323gos

...so - what can we learn?
I believe (even the comparion is a bit imperfect,...different focal length,...but I thought it is fair for bayer matrix reason to reducer FL while imaging with M25C)
the difference in resolutionpower of monochrom CCD and color CCD is not so big, as many people claimed...?

best wishes!

9" TMB Apo first light on moon

Posted By dietmar hager

smile
hi folks,

for more than one year I have been imaging only deepsky objects so far.
but tonight I wanted to "give the m9er" first light on moon.
last time I imaged moon was 04 and 05 with my late 14" SC...
ever since DMK 21f04 was lying around ...

9" TMB Apo f722,5 (2,5 powermate)
DMK 21f04 30 fps
seeing 4-5/10
250/1000
registax 4

Theophilius and Cyrillus:

Gassendi:
http://stargazer.christelhager.info/astropics/moon/gassendi-5m-30fps.jpg

Daguerr:
http://stargazer.christelhager.info/astropics/moon/daguerr.jpg

since I`m out of practice in lunar imaging I`d be greatful for any tip concerning registax 4,...I was only used to version 2,...

thanks!
