Moon mosaic- Canon 10D/ 18" Starmaster

Hi all,

Back in the fall of last year when I got my Canon 10D I tried to do a mosaic shot of the moon using the Denkmier OCS (which is needed to get focus on my fast newt and to get the widest possible FOV with a DSLR) and my Starmaster. I never was too satisfied with it as I could'nt get the images to align properly. I think it was due to field rotation and my computer not being fast enough to work with the 36 MB tiffs. I'll have to try it again now that I have a much faster computer, but I did like how it came out. Heres a much downsized version.

Rupes Cauchy/Domes

Hi all,

Finally got some clear weather after many many days of rain!
Imaged the moon with my 18" Starmaster, and a B&W Atik intruments webcam. This shot is showing the Rupes Cauchy fault along with some classic domes in the area. Seeing was 5/10. A stack of 90 using Reg 2 and Images plus.

Sunset over Alphonsus

Hi,

Heres a pic taken this am with a Atik webcam, 3X's barlow and my 18" Starmaster. Seeing was 6/10. I really liked the spire in the middle, and how the shadow intersects with the rilles on the floor of Alphonsus. Looks almost sinsister ;>)

Fracastorius

Hi all,

The same night I shot my Cauchy area picture I also imaged the crater Fracastorius. The shot was taken on the 5th August at 5:10 am EDT with my 18" dob and the Atik camera.
The seeing was 5-6/10.

Posidonius with 30" Starmaster

Hi all,

Did a little imaging this am around 1:30 EDT, the seeing was not as the CSC said but it was OK about a 5/10.
I decided to try out my 30" which is cumbersome and difficult to get an image focused cause I'm way up the ladder and its hard to see the monitor :>)
Usually it has to be really good seeing (8/10 or better) before the 30" shows more detail than my 18" but I slid in the 3X's Televue barlow (too much image scale, I need to get a 1 1/4" 2X's barlow for this scope) and gave it a try.
Next time hopefully I'll get some better seeing and I can try out a IR passband filter.

Congrats to Wes on getting his awesome Posidonius pic in as LPOD! I think Wes you used a 5X's powermate in this pic? When the seeings good it sure pays to use big image scale to get the resolution!!

Reprocessed Jupiter image

Hi all,

Well the late summer weather has certainly been clearer here but not very good seeing at all, so in preparation for some planetary imaging (Saturns high enough at 5:00am!) I reprocessed my best Jupiter avi from last year. I was surprised to see that I had dug out a lot more finer detail than before, I guess it pays to try new skills on older images. Tech details: 18" Starmaster , 5X's powermate,Toucam740. 150 frames done in Reg2 and Images Plus.

Hi all,

Found an unprocessed avi of Tycho shot a few months back, theres an interesting teardrop shaped structure to the one o clock position just outside of Tycho.
Scope was 18" Starmaster camera Atik B&W webcam, 3X's barlow
Stack of 155 done in Reg 2 processed in IP.
