Ding or no Ding

Posted By david berman

Hey guys. I've had my W.O. ZS110 supposedly sold by firm commitments to buy, three different times. All three have recinded their commitment in the next day or two. This is really getting old. Every time this happens I have to start the add all over again. Should I give these guys a negative rating, post their names in my add so that other may be aware, or what? They really don't know what they're doing, and they don't care about the other person's time and effort.

NP 127is First Light-M8, M20

Posted By david berman

This is my first experience with deep space imaging, thanks to the guidance and help of my buddy Asthon Kaidi... I'm bit! I really love this scope and can't wait to do more with it. We couldn't go too long as M-8 was starting to get low into the Orange County soup.

Kitty Hawk snub

Posted By david berman

Over the Thanksgiving holiday the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk and her task force were snubbed by the Chinese government from making a scheduled port call in Hong Kong, after thousands of loved ones and dependents made special arrangements to be there with them. The behavior of the Chinese government is reprehensible, but the response to this by the Fleet Admiral and our State Department is worse. I think it's time that someone in our government stand up and stop sugar coating the behavior of the Chinese for fear of reprisal. We're the ones that spend trillions of dollars a year on their economy and military build up. They should at least have the decency to treat our young men and women with respect and honor their presence while they spend there hard earned money in Hong Kong or any other Chinese port. We should immediately take Hong Kong off of the itinerary for any more port calls in the foreseeable future, boycott any further military business with the Chinese, and try and boycott as many products as we can from China, although that will be hard to do. Even if it takes years to ween them down, we have to start looking to other countries in Asia, Central and South America to increase and build future business with. The dollar still talks.

Super Mach 1

Posted By david berman

Last eve my imaging partner Ashton and I, set up his new Mach 1 for the first time. Words are hard to describe this fine instrument until you actually see it and use it. The mechanics, engineering and finish quality that went into it is superb. It is very light weight for it's capacity and very easy to set up. Thanks Roland for providing our astronomy community such a fine piece of equipment.

The self anointed telescope guru from TNR came out to California to visit last summer. Always a pleasure to have him. Thanks Art.

1887 Moon

Posted By david berman

Just acquired this beautiful piece of history. 1887, 5.25", f12 John Byrne refractor, complete with original Byrne mount, original eyepieces and accessories. Except for the lack of lens coatings this scope rivals the finest of todays well made scopes in detail and contrast. Images were taken using a TAK EM200 mount for tracking.

1887 5.25" John Byrne refractor

I recently made my first purchase of an antique scope thanks to a very kind Astromarter that responded to a 'Wanted' add that I posted for an Alvan Clark or Brashear scope. He refered me to an add posted for this scope and mount that was for sale back in the D.C. area. I ended up flying back east to examine this fine instrument and had it crated and shipped back to Cal. I am somwhat new to this exiciting field of astronomy and would look forward as the moderator to have others with the same interests, post what ever information that they would like to share with others in this forum. BE WARNED though, you may get bit.

Thanks,

Dave
