Sunspot groups 718 and 720 January 13,14,15

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are a bunch of links to the sunspot images I have made in the past 3 days. The first 3 are shot at prime focus, all at the same plate scale. It gives you some idea on how much AR720 has grown in 3 days. The last bunch are higher resolution images. The images from January 14 were shot through high thin clouds so the contrast is low, but I wanted to get a record if I could. The rest were shot in average seeing conditions.

Enjoy.. grin

Sunspots from January 16....don't laugh... :)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

The skies were clear and blue and i had high hopes for imaging today. However, seeing was miserable!! I think the temperature was rising so fast it made the air unstable...or something!!

Anyway I managed two images, one at prime focus and the other at F/22. The prime focus image is passable, the F/22 is lousy but for better or worse, here they are... :S

Hi all,

Seeing far better today than yesterday! I managed to take advantage of that and got these three images of the sun. Back to work for two days and probably a blank sun by Thursday, but is was fun while it lasted. I am wondering if AR720 will survive the trip back to the earth face again.

Gotta update my webpage again...hehe.

Saturn

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here are two images I made of Saturn with my Orion ED100 on the evening of January 17. I was very surprised how well they turned out. The smaller image was shot with a Shorty 2x barlow and a 2" extender tube giving me F/29. The larger image is a 1.5x resized version of the smaller image. Shot with a Toucam 740 and processed in Registax 3. The stack was 1176 images.

Tomorrow morning....Jupiter!!

New Camera

Posted By Paul Maxson

I came home last night from my volunteering job and found my SAC4-II camera waiting for me!! Talk about exciting! I haven't had time to do anything with it but will report and post images as I get them. This camera has a 1/2" CMOS chip that is supposed (according to the SAC folks) to be a bit more sensitive than the chip in the Toucam. Proof in the imaging. grin

Eric,

That is fabulous!! Really nice image! Are you sure your 9.25" isn't a 92.5"? grin

Sunspots from January 20, 2005

I managed to get a very poor image of AR720 on it's last day visible this time around. Clouds all over and breezy. Can't have it all I guess... :-)

It was fun and I hope it survives to be seen again in about 12-14 days!!
