The leftists in the Blue states locked down tight and destroyed their economies with Draconian Measures, while Red States like Florida and Texas were probably the most free states and their economies didn't suffer because they didn't play the political games that NY, California, and New Jersey played.

There was no mask mandate in Florida and they didn't shut down tight and had more freedom than any other state and yet the deal toll in Florida was no greater than in New Jersey, New York, or California.

Ron DeSantis proved that Red State America knew how to do it, while the idiots running the blue states, Cuomo, Newsome, and the asshole of all assholes Phil Murphy, showed what a true dictatorial jackass looks like.

For all of his draconian measures and his personal vendettas against business owners, his state has one of the highest death rates per capita, if not being #1.

Ron DeSantis really does exhibit leadership while Cuomo was busy killing the elderly in Nursing homes, then blaming others for his pathetic debaucle.
Come on Rich, it's a new year - please answer my question.  We both live in a lovely blue state.  Wish it was still red or purple, but it isn't.  So, as I asked before, I sure don't see anything crazy and totalitarian going on here in Colorado.  Are you seeing it differently?

Also was our economy destroyed?

p.s. It is your prerogative to choose not to answer my questions.  I won't hound you like I might if I was in a bad mood.  For what it is worth, from my perspective, there is nothing crazy or totalitarian going on in Colorado.  The Broncos games are packed with un-masked screaming fans, even though our team stinks.  All the restaurants and clubs are open, some require masks, but certainly only a few in the largest metro areas.  Our economy is doing pretty good.  Nothing to complain about at all.

Geraldo says he's "Eating Humble Pie" now due to his infection with Covid

The Vaccine doesn't prevent the infection and it doesn't prevent spreading the virus.

Prevent is a word that needs clarification.  Do you mean "100% effectively prevent infection or spread?"  If so, I would reply, "of course not"  No vaccine is 100% effective at preventing infection and spread.  Particularly with omicron, which is obviously infecting vaccinated and unvaccinated folks at unprecedented high rates.  Omicron evolved after the vaccines were introduced of course.

Another possible meaning of the word prevent in a sentence like yours is that the vaccine prevents infection and spread in many cases.  Similar to the way we say seatbelts prevent loss of life in car accidents.  You agree right?  I think it is pretty apparent from the evidence that the vaccines do prevent infection and spread in many cases, especially against the more lethal alpha and delta variants, which are largely supplanted now by the more transmissive and less lethal omicron.

Also, the evidence shows that the vaccines limit the scope of the infections that do occur among the vaccinated.  We can only speculate, but maybe you'd be dead or dying now, in view of your recent bout with Covid, if your sister had not forced you to get vaccinated.  Probably not of course, but it makes one think.  Maybe you should send her a gift basket?

In any case, I still watch the numbers pretty closely.  Contrary to what Rod posts, this is no longer a pandemic limited to unvaccinated deplorables.  Omicron is an equal-opportunity infector.  Hospitalizations and deaths are not skyrocketing though.  We appear to be reaching détente with this virus, and I hope this winter is it's last hurrah before we and the virus settle into what is a typically non-lethal endemic status, much like we have with the ancestral coronaviruses that crossed over into the human population many thousands of years ago.

As you note, "they" claimed that it would be about 94% effective preventing the alpha variant - which it was.  No claims were made regarding omicron or delta, since those variants did not exist when the vaccine was released.  It is a really good thing that the the vaccines subsequently proved effective at  preventing delta, since delta infections were very serious.   I doubt the vaccines were 94% effective at preventing delta, but I don't have data on that.

Everyone, including you, knows that RNA viruses mutate quickly and a lot, and would eventually mutate to a point where the existing vaccines were less effective at preventing infections.  Now, sure enough, the existing vaccines are proving far less effective at preventing omicron.  That is not surprising, since omicron is highly mutated.

It is a fringe benefit I suppose that the whole or partial immunity provided by vaccine (or infection) decreases the impact of the disease.  This too is part of the evolutionary game.  Shortly, everyone on Earth will have some level of immunity to Covid 19, either through vaccine, infection or both.  That immunity will decrease over time of course, and the virus will continue to mutate.  So, I think we will always have this virus, but with any luck at all it will continue to become far less deadly over time, as a result of evolutionally pressure on the virus plus everyone's residual partial immunities.

However, that's neither here or there.  The fact remains that the CDC has became nothing more than a political wing of the Biden administration, as did the Pfizer company when it delayed announcement of the creation of the vaccine until the week following the election.

They knew that the vaccine was tested and ready to go, but they waited coincidentally until after the Nov 2 vote to make their announcement.

Many companies have become completely politicized, those like Facebook and Twitter, who have singled out Conservative individuals and groups for censorship.

I doubt you realize that, since you've indicated that you aren't even in tune enough to know who Gov. Larry Hogan is, so why would you be up to date on any other political goings on in this country.

Now then, to get to the claim of yours that I owe my sister a gift because she urged me to get the Vaccine and your intimation that the vaccine may have saved my life?

That's truly doubtful since I got the original vaccine back in March and i never got a booster.  The vaccine may have done something but as to how much it helped, that's anybody's guess.

And your suggestion that I send her a piddly fruit basket?  I'm sure that's your speed with your sisters and other relatives.  I simply helped to build her an $800,000 house.  That's how I take care of my relatives.

I think she appreciates that more than a fruit basket.  smile

In fact we sat down last Christmas and did some talking about how much Money I saved her and my brother in law, and just in the wiring of the house alone, they didn't have to fork out $28,000.

The kitchen cabinetry I installed and the 12 foot 5 sided Island I built and installed for them saved them around $20K as well.

Now we decided that if they had to add up the savings they got from me installing virtually every single window and door, both exterior and interior, along with all the work on the bathrooms tile and bathtub installs, along with putting in every stick of finish trim, casing and baseboards,  not to mention building them their cabinetry in the mudroom, as well as with concrete flatwork when Phil and I put in a sidewalk, running underground cable for the electrical system to the panel box, they may have realized a savings of somewhere between $75K - $100,000 that they didn't have to fork out to other contractors.

But then that's just me.  You?  You can buy your sis a fruit and cheese basket at Christmas and feel like $100 dollars.

My guess that you're generous enough to even discount your legal work to them as well, am I right?

Instead of the $475 per hour that you would charge strangers, you discount your rate to a measly $250 per hr. correct?

Just guessing there on my part, but maybe you've given more to your family to help out.  I'm sure they appreciated it at the time.  tongue

I know my family does when I help them out with anything in the realm of remodeling or building.  wink

BTW, I even forgot that i wired all the lighting and outlets in the garage, and I spent 3 days putting together their 3 garage doors by myself that came in a box from Overhead door and then installing them.  That was a fun learning experience, even if I do say so myself.

Since I've posted a number of times after the new year here, you've been running around, chasing my postings down, and picking out small parts that you could critique, so I posted a response that I considered appropriate.  wink

All I did was explain to you why I didn't consider her advice to me to have saved my life which I take it is what you were implying.

I'll reiterate, Nah probably not.

As I stated, I got the shot in Mar and in April because it was a double shot.  So in my opinion, when I got Covid last week, I doubt the 8 month old Moderna shot provided any protection that saved my life.

In fact when I didn't respond to one of your remarks to me, you stated, that you would in essence quit hounding me for a response because you "weren't in a mood" whatever that means.

So am I to understand that when you get a response that you don't like you become uppity?  LOL

Sorry, but I didn't consider my response back to you offensive.  In fact I made a joke in return about your gifts to your family, where I said I'll bet you give a discount from your regular rate for legal fees.

Isn't that a joke as well?  smile

Enjoy your night.
Right, of course, predictable.  For the record, I originally said it was not likely the vaccine saved your life, but you never know.  Why the misrepresentation of my point?  Are you lying or just being careless?  Also, in the other thread I said that I wouldn't hound you because I was not in a "bad" mood.  Why did you misquote me above?  Lying or careless?  Most people know what a "bad" mood means.  I suppose that someone who is in a bad mood 24/7 might have trouble with the concept.  No worries, it is easy to set the record straight.

Fair point, 454 words is pretty typical.

A bit touchy are you there counselor?  Looks like a struck a nerve there w/you.  Did the shock run all the way down your spine?   wink  smile

Hmm... it appears that you're getting even more uppity that I gave you a dig back, after your previous feeble attempt to get a dig in to me, with your link to a fruit and cheese basket??   LOL!

And here I was thinking you had this gigantic ego in 2021...  MAN, we're not even through the first week of 2022, and looks like your head  is really going to be swelled up in the coming 2022 season!    tongue
Just curious why you misquoted and misrepresented.  I'd prefer not to think it was intentional.  I'd rather think it was just carelessness.  Jim
