Shane and you are demonstrating your ignorance..... The Puckle gun from 1718 was the 1st "machine gun" and fired 9 rounds a minute. The 2nd amendment was adopted to the bill of rights in 1791 roughly 70 years later. Rest assured there were guns well beyond the capability of the Puckle by the time the 2nd amendment was adopted.....
In fact the Girardoni air rifle came along in 1779 and became a military weapon as well, there was a version for the public. It had a rapid rate of fire, held 20 rounds and could be fired up to 30 times before you had to change or pump up the air cylinder. 1779 was 12 years before the 2nd amendment.....The Lewis and Clark expedition used them as well. They were considered accurate and deadly to 150 yards. It was available in a .46 or .51 caliber ball ammo and you can bet getting hit by a .50 caliber ball that weighed at least triple what a .223 does will do some serious serious damage.

Edit: noteworthy, the Girardoni was the 1st repeating rifle adopted by the military and the 1st to use a tubular magazine.....and still well before the 2nd was written.
