My next project along with fans..

Ron,

Sounds like you may need to fix the flexing rather than the motion, or maybe a little of both.

Whatever Rick Singmaster uses on these Starmasters, he has the azimuth motion nailed. As precise and predictable as I have seen on a dob. Others are the equal, none are better. Here is the gouge on what Rick uses instead of Ebony Star:

"The stuff is called FRP, or fiberglass reinforced plastic. You can purchase it in 4x8 sheets at Home Depot and Lowes. Glasbord is one brand of the stuff. If you go to Lowes, check back in the area where wall paneling is sold. FRP is used typically in commercial kitchens and bathrooms. It is quite slick and easy to keep clean."

His pads are virgin teflon loaded at what I approximate at 15 lbs / sq in.

Hope that helps.

Hey Tom H.

Brian,

I put the ad up because of your post in the Pentax forum. I had to give them a try. I'll definitely have to remove the eyecups. I've found one 10.5mm so far. One more to go.

Clear skies,

Need a new lawnmower

Bill,

The Toro is side vavle where the Honda is OHV. $300 more for the Honda, but that's ok if I get $300 more morth of performance/convenience.

I just have a 1/9 acre yard, so nothing big required. Just want something that is convenient and will last 10 yers +.

I went and got a Lawn Pro Gold series model 10656. Apparently, it is identical to the Toro Recycler, but with a Honda engine, which I like. Should provide years of good mowing.

I also got my Fujinon 16x70 binocs in. Which one do I play with first? Well, neither. They both brought rain.

Fujinon 16x70's are here, but...

I just discovered that the eyecups just screw off. That made things a lot more comfortable. With a fully dialated pupil, I should be fine. If I get reflections on the ep's, I'll just use my light shield goggles I made to use with my binoviewers (I had to take all the eyecups off my ep's when I use them in my binoviewers. Same beady eye problem).

Clear skies,

Tom

Here's a pic of the Fuji 16x70's on the P-mount and a Bogen 3046/3047 combo. Works nice.

Re: new Fujinons in the USA!

Nils,

No insult. I tried it, but my issue is nose relief (the space available between the ep's) not eye relief. Rolling down the eyecups just reduced nose relief, although a bit more eye relief was avialable. There is a magic place where my eyes are close enought to take in the entire FOV and there is enough space for my nose to fit between the eyepieces. For my Fuji's, that can only happen if I remove (they unscrew) the eyecups completely.

Clear skies,

Tom

24 Panoptic / 22 Vixen Lanthanum Superwide

Posted By Tom Hole

Brian,

The Pentax XW's are down to $270 at Adorama now. I just bought 2 10.5 XL's off of Amart and if they work for me, I may sell them and get a pair of 10 XW's to try.

The 20mm XW is getting away from the max TFOV in a 1.25" format, though. As for the 24 Pan vs VLSW, I can't comment on the Vixen but I can say that my 24 Pans will never be sold. IMHO, they are the perfect binoviewing ep.

I was called very RUDE today

Interested and I'll take it are two completely different terms. If I email someone and say I'm interested and in the meantime he sells to someone who says they'll take it, I have no problem with that. Thems the breaks. I hate whiners. The great thing about Astromart is there is always another deal to be had. Patience and a good set of email filters can bring some fine bargains.

New Eyepiece Collection

Howard,

We're all wiping the drool off of our keyboards so we can type a response. Certainly a nice setup. I can help a little with binoviewer stuff, but don't know nuthin' 'bout refractors.
