Time to move on Republicans...

Posted By Jim Moscheck

My biggest problem was no matter how many times they were reached out to all we got from them is NO. As it is some of the stuff that the GOP wanted taken out of the bill was removed, but they could have done far better if they had negotiated in good faith. :S Guess they just listen to that drug addled gasbag el Rushbo who I guess really is the de facto leader of the Party of No.

Not confirmed yet, but if proven, WWOD? South Korea is an ally, but with Obama's weak foreign policy it might be best to let SK handle it themselves.

Scary, David. WWOD? I'm not familiar with that abbreviation.

A take off of WWJD? What would Obama do?

Eyepiece advice for a Lunt solar scope

Posted By Jim Moscheck

I have the same scope, too, and find the UO Orthos are very nice when viewing Sol. I've tried the 13 and 8 Ethos, and a 24mm Panoptic with a 2x barlow, but IMHO the view in the Orthos are better with brighter images and good contrast. I always start with the 18mm to get the whole view and to locate any prominences, bump it up to the 12.5mm, and if seeing permits I go to the 9mm.

Before getting the Lunt I was thinking about selling off the Ortho set. I'm really glad I kept them. 8)

Alright... Now What?

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Hi Brian,

A little late to the thread, but I love audio just as much as my astronomy habit. A few years ago I put together a nice 5.1 system that serve double duty for music and HT. Have Definitive tower speakers and matching center and rears powered by a Denon AV receiver with 100 watts/channel all circa 2008. Have an Oppo Bluray that plays CD, SACD, DVD-audio, and DVD. The one piece that pulled everything together is the Logitech remote with it's easy online programming it takes one push of the button for any switching via HDMI.

Music sounds good on that system and SACD's sound especially good, but I also have a two channel system in a spare bedroom that is my preference for listening to audio. Found this Marantz 2238 receiver at a garage sale for 5 bucks and mated it to Monitor Audio floor speakers, my old OPPO DVD/CD player, and an old IMac that I use as a music server with all CD's loaded using Apple Lossless encoding. I'm still looking for a vintage turntable to round out the system as I have many favorites that are only on vinyl.

Let's all take a moment to offer prayers to Elizabeth Edwards and reflect upon what reprehensible scumbags too many of politicians are.

Discussions without personal references

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Floyd Blue said:

You know, I think that on this forum and on the political front, discussion can happen and points can be made without making personal comments about the other person in the discussion.

Nothing is gained by telling someone they are an ass, stupid, a total idiot, a kook or fool. You make your point by placing your opinion up for others to review and they get to either agree or disagree. But to vent on one another, just to make you feel better or superior, makes you look foolish in the end. This is because calling another a name is nothing more than provoking a response and does not prove your point in the slightest.

Now, there is nothing wrong with saying, I feel you are in error and this is my take on it. That is a discussion and each point of view is placed before the group so that others can make up their own minds which point is the valid one. This does not mean that one point or the other is the more valid, unless one point has more factual basis for its foundation.

I know that people get carried away when things are not face to face and remarks can only be met with a response on line. This makes it rather easy for a person to be confrontational, which to me is not really constructive. But, it is the nature of forums on line and it is up to those on the forum to set the bar for conduct.

Yours is a voice of reason in the wilderness, Floyd, but I'm afraid it will fall on deaf ears. Not just the personal attacks, but the blanket accusations of entire groups by those that are angry doesn't add anything to the debate.

The Legacy of LBJ and Liberalism

Posted By Jim Moscheck

I drive by many of those places every day. Some of the architecture is simply amazing, too bad no one wants to redevelop some of these structures. There are a few gems left downtown that have been restored, especially in the area surrounding the stadiums.
