Sunspots from January 20, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

I managed to get a very poor image of AR720 on it's last day visible this time around. Clouds all over and breezy. Can't have it all I guess... :-)

It was fun and I hope it survives to be seen again in about 12-14 days!!

More congratulations are in order!!

Got the April S&T today and as is my habit, I checked out the user contributions in the back and there was a beautiful Saturn by Jim Phillips (I thought your scope is an 8" not 10"). Then as I'm reading articles (I don't JUST look at the pictures you see... wink ), I see Wes Higgins award winning image of Schroeter's Valley and surrounding area. And if THAT wasn't enough, in the Jupiter Red Spot section is a beautiful image from Damian Peach. Our images have been getting a lot of print in the Red Spot area lately.

Congratulations everyone!!

Jupiter with my ED100

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Well it wasn't shot with a huge scope...the jury on my C925 is still out, but I'm convinced that it has some problems. Anyway, I shot this image of Jupiter with my trusty Orion ED100 and a 3x Televue barlow. I enlarged the image 15%. In the lower right of the disk, close to the North Pole region you can see a dark spot. That is the disk (not shadow) of Ganymede. Considering the scope and all, I'm happy with the image.

Eric,

I just love those images!! What type of filter did you use?

Thanks!!

Thought you might like to see some sunspots from the past:

I recently dug these out of my archives; they are the highest resolution ones I have to date taken with the ETX-90. The top was was a stack of 15 out of 400 frames and the bottom 40 out of 377 frames. Seeing on that day was 9+/10 with very steady skies.

Enjoy,
Eric

Sunspots on January 22 and 23, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Well, the skies are bleak and dreary at this time, but I managed to get some sunspot images processed from when the sun popped his head out. They aren't huge spots, but turned out nicely despite less than perfect seeing. I am really, really getting to like Registax 3 with the Gradient and Create Reference features!!

Toucams....

Posted By Paul Maxson

Just curious if the newer Toucams (840 and/or II) are better than the 740? I have had mine for about 20 months and wonder if it has lost sensitivity over the time.
