The Single Best Investment You Can Make

Posted By Larry Durst

I'll add one very inexpensive, low-tech item: a notebook and a pencil. (Okay, that's two.) There is no substitute for taking your own notes and making your own sketches to really hone your observations.

Which Camera?

I can certainly second Bob's endorsement of a MX716. I've been very happy with mine. Lots or options these days!

Jim,
Another great image--the detail is just terrific for such a wide field. And the color looks nice and rich and natural as well. Really nice.

PS: I'm curious about your preference for stacking in Registax versus AstroArt...I have only used Reg for planets.

Dennis,
First off, good to see a post from you--it's been a while. And what a post! That movie is quite dramatic.

Tom,
You're right-that is certainly an interesting area to look at with the combination of nebula types. I love it when someone tackles the less imaged stuff! And, as usual, you did a terrific job. Actually, my reaction after looking at the Ha alone was that I feel you could actually bring that data up a bit in the HaRGB. I thought the Ha was a wonderful image in its own right and a bit lost in the final. The blue was really quite stunning on my laptop.
My two cents on an already wonderful shot.

Charlie,
I use PHD with a DSI on an LX90. And, believe it or not, my first attempts were failures simply because I didn't follow even the simplest directions. Just in case you're like me, double check that you're following all the steps in order (choose camera from icon button, choose mount from pulldown menu on top, hit connect to telescope button, hit loop to focus, hit stop, choose star, hit PHD and let it calibrate). Just thought I'd offer this up. When you get it working you'll be amazed!
