Black Hole Theory

Posted By ROBERT MOORE

Mark, not all supernova become black holes Supernovae are divided into two basic physical types:

Type Ia. These result from some binary star systems in which a carbon-oxygen white dwarf is accreting matter from a companion. (What kind of companion star is best suited to produce Type Ia supernovae is hotly debated.) In a popular scenario, so much mass piles up on the white dwarf that its core reaches a critical density of 2 x 109 g/cm3. This is enough to result in an uncontrolled fusion of carbon and oxygen, thus detonating the star.

Type II. These supernovae occur at the end of a massive star's lifetime, when its nuclear fuel is exhausted and it is no longer supported by the release of nuclear energy. If the star's iron core is massive enough then it will collapse and become a supernova.

If the collapsed core left behind by a type II supernova explosion has a mass of less than 2 or 3 solar masses, it becomes a neutron star. If more than 2 or 3 solar masses remains, not even neutron degeneracy pressure can hold the object up, and it collapses into a black hole, so if the mass is 1 to <2 solar masses maybe what you end up with as a Eta Carinae type event

Hopes this helps

considering PST

Posted By ROBERT MOORE

Rex, I have a PST and yes it has rust. The rust problem is very common and Meade will no longer warranty them. Meade has been going down, down, down, the stock at one time was about $55.00 now it's down to .10 I think that says a lot. Lunt has been around for a year and a half now and there scopes have gotten great reviews here's part of one. you can go to there web site and read the entire review.

"I have observed through and tested many fine h-Alpha filtered
telescopes over the years, and it is my humble opinion that the LS50
ranks among the very finest filters I have had the pleasure to look
through, and I believe it's a stunning value."

I have NO affiliation with Lunt other then sitting on the board of RAC with one of the owners and have had the opportunity of taking a look in a 60mm Ha and seeing for my self that it out performed my PST hands down.

Suggestions on how to build a wedge

Posted By ROBERT MOORE

what is your Lat. Jay? If your near 45deg. + or - 5 deg. you can use a 6" or 8" steel flanged 45 deg. pipe fitting then shim the front for over 45 or the back for under 45 deg. I have seen it done and it works great.

It's a home run for any astronomy event. My club does NEAF and when we have any astronaut we see and increase in attendance, A moon walker would blow the doors off

TV Made in America

Posted By ROBERT MOORE

OK let me ask this, If the tube of a TV scope is made from recycled 1981 Yugo car's does that mean that it should say on the sticker made in Yugoslavia. A scope is more then just the glass used in it, it's a unit, a unit made up of many parts and in TV case one person's hands, and those hands are right here in Chester, New York USA.
