This is the best time for observing in Colorado.   Had a great visual day on Saturday with my younger son and Linda - we observed all the summer spectacles as the Milky Way is still overhead, M13, M17, many others, plus the more autumn-like M31, Double Cluster and Saturn.   Showed Linda and son Albireo for the first time and they loved the yellow/blue contrast.  Saturn was as good as it gets in Colorado.  Yesterday and today I was out in the observatory taking images.  The sun in Ha from yesterday is attached.  An extreme rough draft of Saturn from tonight is next...it is getting late!  J

Hi Jim, observing on a cruise ship is not too good. Last night I was on my veranda late looking north and I could see some stars, but the local light pollution is awful. And on the open aft deck forget it as it’s way too bright. The crescent moon and Venus were nice at sunset and I’ve had some beautiful sunsets the whole cruise. 

My trip has had its ups and downs. When in port I’ve been fine by staying busy, but the sea days have been a struggle as I have too much time on my hands. I’ve been working out every day to kill some time, but it’s not enough and I really miss my wife. The ship is all couples so there are reminders of what I’m missing everywhere I look. Everyone I’ve met have been so kind to me, but even that makes it harder for some reason. 

Not only have I missed the awesome observing conditions of September and October that we get in Michigan, too, I’ve missed the great run by the Detroit Tigers to the playoffs. I get the scores early in the morning so it’s strange. I’ve seen a few football games, but they make weird decisions as to what they show. Michigan was playing Washington in a rematch of the national championship, but they chose to show Utah State vs. Boise State. 🤔

For over 50 years the candidates from both parties have been on 60 Minutes in October, but Trump skipped it because they would fact check him. Then he wanted an apology from CBS because he said Leslie Stahl In 2020 said Hunter’s laptop came from Russia. She didn’t. 

I can’t believe this race is so close. He’s been out there lying about the last hurricane saying the Fed response is a disaster. It isn’t according to R governors and congressmen.
