Maybe you need a refresher course in reality, because Hilary and Bill Clinton along with the other Democrat leaders, Harry Reid, Obama were talking about a border wall/fence since the early 2000s.

In fact it was part of their political platform.

And guess what Rod, even Barack Obama used to commonly use the phrase "illegal immigrants".

That was of course until the Democrats decided they needed the new votes from Illegals to keep them in power since they are slowly losing their Black voter base.

It seems that a fair percentage of Black Americans have come to realize that the Democrats couldn't give a shit about them and so they started moving away from the Dem Party.

What planet were you living on?
Trump was all set to accept a deal that he previously agreed to until:

What I've been looking for are specific plans from Trump on how Mexico will pay for the wall.
The conservative Cato institute weighed in on this:
"Alex Nowrasteh of the conservative Cato Institute, said there is really no way to make Mexico pay for it."
"As good as taxing remittances may sound to some conservatives, Nowrasteh said, it is likely migrants will simply send their money by bitcoin or via the black market.
“Even if it’s indirect, it’s as likely as we end up paying for it,” Nowrasteh said. “Let’s say we put tariffs on Mexican goods. That just means that we’d pay high prices so American goods pay for it.”
The link includes the above info as well as supposed ways Mexico will pay for it. I think it's noteworthy the Cato institute believes otherwise...

The question here is: Is Mexico paying for the wall through a renegotiated trade deal, as Trump claimed?

No, trade experts say.
Well, they didn't consult Rich Davis...

Rich Davis: "Well Rod, when I can put up cogent arguments and explain them as well, compared to your leftist talking points, which you can never explain nor defend, I'll keep posting. "
That's why I quoted the Cato Institute...

Davis, you're a troll and a joker and I'm done with your nonsense.

"I know more about drones than anybody," Trump said.

It's pretty hilarious when you look at this exhaustive list of what Trump has declared himself to be an expert on which is for all practical matters limitless.
They forgot to update the list to include ISIS, whom Trump declared "defeated." I guess they forgot to give up because they just took out a British special forces unit today with a smart missile. Trump's today's version of, "mission accomplished"...

He thinks that by declaring himself an expert on the subject matter, that somehow that declaration alone lends credibility to his arguments. This whole thing would be laughable if it weren't so sad that the POTUS is not only this insecure but also incapable of making any coherent case for his agenda other than, "I'm the expert. Therefore, I'm right."
Now we have the "expert" pontificating on the border. The fact check comes at the end of this post. One has to wonder why, after two years of a Republican controlled congress, the "crisis at the border" wasn't a crisis and no funding was passed for what Trump wants.  What's different now?  The caravan that didn't cross illegally into America with our existing resources spurred the Ann Coulters, Rush Limbaughs and the Fox News nuts into action and they in turn bullied Trump into the corner even after he had previously agreed with a compromise bill supported by his own party. There's no more of a crisis now than there was in the past two years when Trump and his fellow wingnuts could have but didn't pass what he wants now.
And now for the fact check:
