According To The People Who Make The Call, We're Not In A Recession

No one is lying.  Ok, agreed on that point, and it is not my intention to defend Rich's absolutism.  Still, I think the overwhelming feeling in this country is that we are in, or imminently headed into, a recession.  In my business and in many small businesses I know of, we are planning for rough economic seas. Public perception matters more in this instance than the strict pronouncements of the NB of ER.

Obviously though you deserve to be higher than either James or Jim M.

You had James pegged totally incorrect.  I'd place him below Jim M. and recently I'd put his line almost asymptotically downward in the last 5 years (since Trump got in office)

You missed Russ though and Steve.

I would place Russ below you though, and just below the x-axis, probably riding it from Day 1 to Now.   smile
And Darian and David too.  I was only charting the people in this thread, as of that time...  As I've thought about my changing viewpoints over life, I think that I mischarted my beginnings.  In high school I was Catholic and religious, so I should have started conservative, dropped to liberal, rose to more conservative and now become relatively liberal for an R.  Still above the line but not much.

Also, I too miss Mike Rosen's brilliance.  He was/is without parallel.

I liked the link.  Blues Piano and riffs are always nice.  I'm unfamiliar with the artist on that tune, but his voice reminds me a little bit of Louis Armstrong.

I'm partial to '60s Brazilian Jazz and I'm really a fan of Nora Jones and Diana Krall.

I did find a (sleeper, since I just happened upon her) Jazz artist by the name of Eliane Elias who is a native Brazilian and does the old standards really well.

Your point about never getting tired of it, is just that.  It is the one genre of music I can listen to when I'm in any mood at all.

I also have a neat Glenfiddich advertising mirror with a map of the world and it has clocks in various places on different continents to show the different time zones.

However I've never tried Glenfiddich.  I'm more of a regular Iced tea guy!!  grin
I have several albums by these ladies, and love them.  I've never listened to 60's Brazilian jazz.  Never to late to try out a new genera though, if you have any specific recommendations.

Usually it is the Republicans, red-necks and other deplorables who favor county music!  I bet you have a "Let's Go Brandon" sticker on your truck, right behind the gun rack...  You're outed now Rod...  wink

Some called the recession official as of yesterday.  Not that the official call matters....  https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/28/gdp-q2-.html

It’s official: The attack on McMorrow backfired.

"The Michigan Republican state senator who falsely described McMorrow as a “groomer” in an April fundraising email raised less than $300 in the days following the solicitation, according to campaign finance filings. McMorrow, on the other hand, raised more than $1 million.

Anyways, I saw this story on Apple News this morning and the bald guy standing next to Mallory is my friend Frank Liberati, who was a state rep at the time of the photo and is now running for state senate. He owns a bakery here in the Detroit suburbs. They make excellent pepperoni rolls and pizza slices.
Good for her.  Your friend has the look of someone who knows his way around a pizza oven!

In fact I'll provide some examples.

Brian Deese one of the economic advisors for the WH came out today and said this:  "The technical definition of a recession is NOT 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth" and yet he previously stated this:  "The technical definition of a recession IS 2 consecutive quarters of economic growth".

Janet Yellin used to say that 2 quarters of economic growth are the definition of Recession.

Now today Janet Yellin says differently.

The AP just a couple of weeks ago said that "the technical definition of a recession is 2 quarters of Neg. GDP growth".

Today they say the opposite.

If you are happy being lied to and you have no problem with it, I'm cool with that.  Its your prerogative.

But please don't sit here and talk about my absolutism.

Facts are facts, the color blue is the color blue and 2+2+4. smile

And the definition of a recession has always been 2 consecutive quarters of Negative GDP growth.  Period

If you want to believe that Men can give birth, that's fine with me also, just don't try to fool me with their lies.

I live in Realville and when these politicians lie to me and try to blow smoke up my ass and tell me the smoke is coming out of my ass because my ass is on fire, I'm skeptical, OK?  wink
Ignore my throw-away use of the word absolutism.  I was speaking generally, about your style.  You are in general an absolutist, a black and white guy.  For example your insistence that a fertilized egg being alive ends any and all discussion of the morality of abortion.  I will be extremely disappointed by the way, not that you should care, if you do not recognize this characteristic of yourself.

In this instance we agree completely.  Recession has a good and customary definition.  We are in a recession according to that definition.  Maybe it will be a short recession or one that is not particularly bad (I hope), but it is still a recession.  The Administration's attempt, and the sympathetic press's attempt to tell us otherwise is really stupid in my opinion.  No one buys it.  They just look desperate.  I would not personally call this feeble attempt to tell us that this is not a recession a lie.  I would call it heavy-handed and ineffective political spin.  Maybe that is the same thing...?
