According To The People Who Make The Call, We're Not In A Recession

Do you personally agree that we are not in a recession?  I've seen some nuanced, but unpersuasive arguments that even though we have 2 quarters of contraction this is still not "technically" a recession.  Like I mentioned to Rich, I don't necessary think the politicians are "lying."  Maybe under some sort of nuanced caveat to the basic definition we do not qualify.  Perhaps you can explain it.  Serious question there.

I am confident that most everyone who thinks about it believes we are in recession.  The nuanced denials comes across as political spin, and if you look at Biden's numbers it is obviously ineffective spin.

If you want to play around with semantic word games and say "well, its life, but its not really life", then I'm not interested in having a discussion with someone who plays semantic word games.

Is that how you're playing it?

There are certain things I am absolutist on and one of them is whether or not a baby is a baby.  If you and others want to play semantic word games by calling a baby a "fetus", then I'll reiterate, I'm not interested in having any discussions with frauds.

I've never said here that a fertilized egg is a baby.  If that's your contention, prove it.   I will say that a fertilized egg in a woman's womb is LIFE, pure and simple and it is Human life.

Now is my explanation there, straightforward enough for you?

Why don't we start there and you can tell me, or point out where I am WRONG Above.

Rather than making your silly accusations, the bullshit implication that you are making that I'm an absolutist on ALL issues, which IS in fact Bullshit, why don't you address my posting above and critique it, if you're able.

In other words, here's your chance to show everyone here where I am wrong.  wink

Oh, and YES, I did notice that you put a qualifier on your assertion when you stated that I'm an absolutist.

You put the words "in general".

Well I guess that explains that, eh?

But I will still challenge you.  Show me what I printed above that you take issue with or that with which you disagree.   smile
Rich I have already done this and it was not persuasive to you.  But for the record:  A fertilized egg is alive.  It is a human life.  Heck, an unfertilized egg and a sperm are both alive, but I would not call them entirely human lives.  I think these are indeed facts.  I do not think these facts are dispositive of the abortion question.

Short aside:  A mass-murderer is a human life too, as I am sure you agree.  I do not think it is immoral to take his life by execution after all sorts of due process has been completed.   I do not think it is immoral for a cop to blow him away when he is caught in the act and resists arrest with deadly force.  I do think it is immoral for a cop to blow him away if he does not resist arrest and is willingly apprehended.  I do think it is immoral for the state to take his life without due process.  I doubt you disagree.  So the mere existence of human life does not make it immoral to terminate the life in certain circumstances.

Back to your point:  sometimes we all reply to you because it helps us to articulate and clarify our own complicated thoughts.  We know that you will disagree or worse, mischaracterize what we are trying to say.  On the abortion question, I do not think I can do than better than my initial articulation in your "Science" thread:

"I would answer that a (human) life does indeed begin at conception.  So I would check the "yes" box too.  Anything that grows and develops organically is obviously alive.

I would say however, that life alone is not dispositive of the abortion question.  In my opinion, the more relevant question is a moral/legal/ethical question: "When along the timeline from conception to birth, and under what circumstances of conception, does the new (human) life acquire a right to continued existence that supersedes a woman's right to control what is going on within her own body?"

Some facts cannot be "nuanced".  Get a new word, you've worn that one out already.

A human life is a human life.  That's a provable fact.

Men don't give birth, and if a person is capable of giving birth then that person is not a man as defined by the most basic biology.

Because psychotic, deranged leftists with mental problems want to assert differently doesn't negate that simple truth.  Just as so many of the Biden nominees appear to be mentally lost, and tell committees that Men CAN give birth doesn't make it so.

The sun comes up in the East because the Earth rotates on its axis not because the Sun decides to do so.  That's a provable truth.
James has never, never, not under any circumstance denied that a fertilized egg is alive.  This is what is so annoying about debating you most of the time Richard.  You have totally mischaracterized James' position.

"East" is clearly a social construct.  Also, the Sun does not "rise."  As you know it is relatively still, compared to the Earth's rotation.  James' statement makes sense to me.

Quit putting words into my mouth counselor.

That  may fly among the left.

You made up assertions don't fly with me.
Pathetic.

All you have to do is read two posts.  You and I were talking about fertilized eggs.  We agreed they are human life.  In that context you said to James:  "No, there are certain things that are facts. Because those like you {James} deny those facts, doesn't negate the truth.  A baby is a baby, it isn't a bowling alley.  Because you choose euphamisms in order to hide the truth, doesn't change the truth."

Yes.  Semantics = Social Construct.

Back to the matter at hand, Rich has noted a fact.  Fertilized eggs are human life.  I do not think this fact alone ends the abortion debate.  Rich has not yet replied to my posts on this.  Do you have an opinion?

I wasn't.

I mean you're becoming an absolute jackass at this point.  tongue

Just because you make assumptions and you apply my statements to whatever the immediately preceding words were, that doesn't translate to me calling anyone anything.

This must be your idea of a "gotcha' moment" on your part.

Here, let me hold your hand and school you, that certain things are facts like umm... men can't give birth, umm... the sun rises in the East (oh and we've already gone through the tedious nonsense that James posted, so no need for you to rehash that, ok?), etc...

You kind of killed your own evidence by indicating that my statement applied to much more than just "fertilized eggs" DS.  wink

From now on I'll just put you in the category of Brian's level of intellect.

All I can say is since you made an incorrect inference regarding my words, and you applied them to "fertilized eggs", I'd say that's on you.

I apologize to rest of the forum that they have to read such drivel from you.  LOL

Next.
Liar.

Rich Davis said:  "Pretty simple question.  Is there a reason you're afraid to answer?"

I have posted the above in two separate threads.  Rich has deflected, lied and otherwise avoided addressing the deeper questions I think are important.  For me at least, I will do my best to never answer a Rich Davis question so long as he refuses to answer mine.  We'll see how I do.  I am a pretty straight forward guy and it bothers me not to answer questions in a forthright way.  Jim

A little update on my hand recovery

Anyways, I am going to list a couple of extra pedals I don't need on craigslist to build up the gear funds. I have a Boss TU-2 tuner that is redundant so I took it downstairs to test it to make sure it still works correctly before I listed it. On my way down I had an idea, a real light bulb moment. I have a brace the OT made me that really didn't work and they made me a second one. I didn't like the way the first one felt due to a strap across the last knuckle of my fingers. I put it on for the first time since then and didn't us the finger straps. The seemingly fruitless effort so far that I've been putting in with my therapy strengthening them paid off and I could now move all of my fingers freely and the brace held them at a downward angle so I could extend the ring finger making it possible to play chords. The little finger is still basically useless, but I was able to play a lot more than I could without the brace. This should be good, fun, and I emphasize fun way of doing some different exercise for it, too. I'm pretty happy right now.

And on a different subject I got out observing last night for the first time since last fall. I washed my mirror and everything. telescope and all electronics worked flawlessly. All I needed to do was know the M or NGC numbers and the scope drove right to them. Saw the comet above Scorpius, too.
Great news!  We have guests on several weekends in the summer.  It has been raining here a lot which is very welcome from a fire danger perspective, but not so hot for observing.  Miraculously, two Saturdays ago, and this last Friday were clear as a bell.  No moon too.  Linda and I got to show off the spring and summer highlights to people who had rarely or never looked through a telescope before.  It was a blast.  We were out late enough on Friday for Jupiter to rise in the East...

Well, actually, we were out late enough Friday for the Earth to rotate such that Jupiter was visible above the murk on the Eastern horizon... cool  Either way, it was dramatic and thrilling for the guests!   Jim
