Comet 2023a3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

Posted By Maurice Clark

This one is a 2-second exposure at 2000ASA using a modified Canon D60 and a Nikon 100mm f/2.8 lens. Was really happy to get the anti-tail.

Anyway, those are great shots Maurice.  Where were you at the time?  If the Aurora were that nice in Alabama, I'm shocked!  I was in Santa Barbara CA at the time and it was cloudy/hazy, but people could definitely see/photograph them here in CO, but nowhere nearly as spectacular as your pics.   Jim
Hi James,

Thank you for your kind words. The aurora was excellent. Not quite as intense as the one back in May, but still great to see. I am not in Alabama any more. For the past 3 years I have been in Indiana. To observe the aurora I went out to a spot close the the local airfield to escape the worst of the light pollution. I have been there a couple of times to observe the comet as it is only a few minutes drive from my house. I have just posted a few images of the comet in the "Comets" forum that I took last Monday. Observing last night, the comet had faded a little but was still naked eye despite the full Moon.

Hope your clouds clear!

Cheers

Maurice

Hi Jim,

Just come in from observing the comet. Still naked eye despite the full Moon.

This image is a 2.5 second exposure at 2000 ASA using a Conon D60 and a Carenar 135mm f/2.8 lens I acquired recently.

Cheers,

Maurice

This one is a 2.5 second exposure using a 35mm f/2.8 Carenar lens. showing the comet above the neighbour's house. Since the Moon was so bring it was not worth heading out of town to a dark site, so just used the camera in my driveway.  Maybe Saturday night will be darker.

Cheers,

Maurice

Hi Jim,

He is clearly just insanely jealous because all he is able to do is cower in his mum's basement, endlessly copying garbage from extreme right-wing conspiracy mongers.

Hi Jim and James,

Beautiful photos! The comet certainly has put on a good show, especially now the Moon is out of the way.

Cheers,

Predictions for November

Posted By Maurice Clark

Hi All,

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone's predictions have changed now that it is less than 2 weeks before the election. (and the start of the 2028 electioneering :'().

I still think trump will lose. My guess is Harris wins with around 291 electoral votes.

For the senate, I think it will be 51/49 in favour of the republicans, although the race for Nebraska is interesting. Polls indicate Osborne has a chance.

For the house, I think the democrats will gain about an 8 seat majority.

What say the rest of you?

Cheers,

Maurice

Hi All,

Just to take a break from al the politics, here is a recent image of comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. It was taken with my 5in f/5 refractor on October 26. At the time the comet was just visible to the naked eye from my (semi) dark site, but still a fine sight in 20x80 binoculars. The image is a mosaic of 39, 20-second images for the tail and 48 20-second images for the head. Taken using a Canan 60D at 6400ASA. Processed in Pixinsight.

Cheers,

Maurice

PS: have plenty more images but not processed yet.
