Saturn on March 22, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Seeing last night was not *quite* as good as the previous night, but still about 7/10. Here is an image I shot of Saturn from last night. I didn't process the image as aggressively as others. Seeing will not be good tonight as we have windy conditions and prediction for rain later today.

Enjoy and thanks!!

Wedge

Posted By Paul Maxson

I'm looking to add a wedge to my C925 and I have heard that the Celestron wedges are not stable enough. I have been directed to the APT wedge and have no qualms about ordering one. I can't seem to find other options....am I missing something? grin

Thanks!!

Jupiter and Saturn over the weekend.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are some images I managed this weekend. The Jupiter and Saturn image from Saturday evening were shot in about 5/10 seeing, but by Sunday the seeing was 8/10. I couldn't shoot Jupiter on Sunday as it was hidden in a cloud bank. Well, at least we know it will get better.

I have been trying hard to refine my post processing to give images a more natural look. I think I am getting better, but still can get better. I really need to learn how to use Images Plus to add the L layer to my RGB images. The tutorial is right there, just need to find time to sit down and go through it.

Thanks!!

Saturn from March 29

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Seeing was average last night with a considerable breeze. I decided to image Saturn anyway and the results were...um...average (LOL!!)

Shot with the Toucam camera.

APOD - Thanks everyone!

Posted By Paul Maxson

I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words. APOD is one page I never thought I'd make.

Let's hope for good seeing and clear skies for everyone for a while!

Jupiter and Saturn April 1 (no fooling!!)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

The wind has been blowing fairly hard (15-20mph with higher gusts) here since Wednesday. Last night it finally set down and I was able to get the two images of Saturn and Jupiter. Seeing was variable as the image would get crisp for 5-10 seconds during the capture, then go to heck for another 5-10 seconds and back and forth. Saturn was a bit better than Jupiter because it was nearly overhead. I got only 600 of 2200 frames in the Saturn image and 800 of 1000 for Jupiter. Now...if we could just get a nice sunspot or two. grin

Jupiter and Saturn April 3, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Images of Jupiter and Saturn shot on the evening of April 3. Jupiter is still a bit low for truly good images, but that gets better each day. I'm running out of time on Saturn as it approaches the roof of my house. Seeing was pretty good initially, but went down the tubes later.

Saturn from April 4, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I was wondering if I should image on a evening after a day of 20-30mph winds. Well, the wind died by sunset so I thought heck....give it a try. So I did. The seeing was probably 5/10 to 6/10 but the sky was turbulant. Happily Saturn was overhead. The image isn't fabulous, but decent. I looked at Jupiter afterwards but it looked like a Jellyfish chasing food. There will be other days... **grin**

Saturn from April 5, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

It was a very odd evening. My first Saturn image was very nice on the screen (that is the one I am posting). As soon as I finished that image the seeing went to heck. I tried Jupiter a couple hours later, but the seeing had dropped at least one point if not more (from 7/10 to 5-6/10).

I am hoping my seeing will be good tonight, the jetstream winds are low and there is a cold front approaching. Also, thin clouds all over so we shall see.

Thanks for looking.

Just a suggestion

Posted By Paul Maxson

Just going to throw this out as a suggestion....I read a lot of articles here about a lot of really nice items to upgrade our scopes with, then I have to search Google or other searches to find out where the heck to find them. For instance, someone said that they use a moonlight focuser. Google just gives me a few evals of it, but no vendor. If we all could get into the habit of at least including a vendor or even better, the products website it sure would make it easier for the rest of us to look at the very successful upgrades others have done. I'm not trying to flame anyone, just make a suggestion to make my life easier. grin

Thanks!!
