Democratic Dribble... New Name of This Forum

If I were running a astronomy business as Paul is:

I wouldn't consider alienating customers with such a inflammatory post as he made. Really makes me wonder about his common sense.

Reasons to take heart if your guy loses

If Bush wins, and your worst fears are realized and you believe that we have 4 more years of war plague & famine in store for us, then rest assured that by 2008 the country will be so sick of republicans that democrats will run virtually unopposed.

If we last that long! The way the current spending is going by 2006 we'll be so far down in "The Old Muddy" that we'll never get out, neither will our children or grandchildren.

10" Meade SCT carrying harness

Try it when you're 72 like me.

I totally agree. I've got a 200LX GPS and getting it up on the top bolt is a screaming bitch! Scares the crap out of me. Getting it off isn't any easier. It wouldn't be so bad if the mounting plate was just 12" shorter.

The one salvation is that I'll have a permanent mount as soon as the house is finished.

Carlos:

I don't know what business you're in, but if it isn't art, you're in the wrong business.

That drawing is spectacular.

What to buy?

Jim:

There are all sorts of answers to you're question. I'd look at first - Do you want tracking?

Answer NO - get a Dob and push
Answer Yes - get something else with tracking

Can you EASILY lift 65#?

No - Stay away from anything > 8"
Yes - Look at bigger apertures

Is it going to be permanently mounted?

No - Stay at 10" or smaller
Yes - Sock the whole thing into as big as you can get even if used.

Are you planning to take pictures?

Yes - You'll need tracking and a wedge or equatorial mounted scope. If you get a wedge then an Alt/AZm will work fine except you tack on about 25-30# for the wedge.

No - Go with a Alt/Azm. Goto like a Meade LX200GPS.

Lastly don't get sucked in by the hype. I don't have 1/10 wave eyes and you probably don't either. As for extra money for those super duper coatings I'd put the $ in aperture. Bigger aperture compensates a lot for the coatings.

Reflector or Refractor?

Take your pick. For the same price you can get a large aperture in reflector. 6 inch refractors are expensive as hell. 6" reflectors are dirt cheap.
