Mike: You look fit enough to handle a solid tube 12" dob. So if transporting it is not a problem (I am 68 and use a 95 Windstar Van), then my suggestion would be the Orion 12Xi. The setup,teardown, and generally handling time for a solid tube over a truss tube is significant. The optics on the Orion are excellent and the object locator works fine. Handles are recommended for the tube that are easily attached (wrap-around velcro). Considering your $1500 cash option, you could obtain a decent EP or two.
Truss dobs are nice, but they can also be a hastle. In my case, my scope is cooling down while I help a friend attach his truss poles, etc. When my solid tube 12" gets too much for me to handle, then it will be converted to a truss. Til then, the 2 minutes time to place the base, set the scope, and start the fan is my way to go.
You also are close to a number of astronomers in Atlanta and Deerlick Astronomy Village with who and where you can perhaps do a little "shopping" before you make your decision.

I was impressed with the 8mm I looked through and like the extra FOV, even if you cannot take it all in at once. It is like standing on a mountain vista without a restricted FOV. No you cannot focus on it all at once, but the Vista is necessary. So the 8mm got a two thumbs up for me. Would I buy one? Now that's a different story. If it weren't for trying to maintain domestic tranquility, I would probably have three and a 20" dob. For now I will stick with my 20, 17 13, 11, and 9 Naglers.

I can see where projections over say 1,000,000 years and with current population growth, and the probability of a big one hitting a metropolitan area or impacting the ocean, that in the time frame 100,000,000 would be killed by such impact(s) and or tsunami(s). That translates to 100 per year. Whereas, in historic time, what data shows the number of deaths associated with meteorite/NEO impacts? 100 per year; perhaps better traffic regulations will save more lives. My refined calculations using hyperbolic projections reveal 107.5 deaths per year might perish due to meteorite impacts. Who do you believe, him or me?

Why not just let the game go to conclusion; i.e., if it is a tie at regulation, then just keep playing from that point until a winner if determined. To go to a coin flip a the end of a game takes away the momentum of a team with the ball.
