Regarding the claims that natural immunity is more effective than the vaccine, several studies from the CDC say precisely the opposite. For example, from August 13, 2021, the analysis below shows how people with a natural infection are 2.3 times more likely to get reinfection than those vaccinated.

But let's set aside actual scientific studies and articles for the moment and think about it logically. The immune response from a natural infection can be pretty variable. Depending on how much viral load you received, you may have a strong or weak response. The vaccine guarantees a strong reaction. Also, a natural infection makes antibodies to all proteins from the virus that your immune system recognizes as foreign. Even the ones that have nothing to do with the infectious nature of the virus. Thus, your immune system is wasting a lot of energy and effort fighting unnecessary things. The vaccine elicits a response to only the spike protein and is a targetted and robust response that is much better at preventing and neutralizing the infection. The science says, and the data says, the vaccine is better. There is no serious debate about this among professionals and experts.
We have always been talking about reinfection rates.  In that thread and this one too.  If we (or Rich) was talking about something else, please let me know.

OK, I see that.  Long term effects are a different issue.  I have a lot less worries along that line than you do, but we will find out the bottom line over the long term.  Jim

Are you saying that the Vaccine for Covid offers better protection against getting Covid than Natural Immunity.

This is a kind of important point.

Here's another way of asking.

Which offers BETTER protection against Getting Covid, Natural Antibodies created from getting the virus OR

The Vaccine for Covid?

Which one is better?
Just to get it straight:

Yes, the vaccine for Covid offers better protection against getting Covid than natural immunity, according to the research Rod and James have provided today and in the past.

This has been enlightening for me.

https://www.nbc12.com/2022/06/22/natural-immunity-offers-greater-covid-protection-than-vaccines-study-finds/

A study published this month in the New England Journal of Medicine shared findings that supported natural immunity providing greater protection from COVID infection than multiple vaccinations.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2118946

Among persons who had been previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 (regardless of whether they had received any dose of vaccine or whether they had received one dose before or after infection), protection against reinfection decreased as the time increased since the last immunity-conferring event; however, this protection was higher than that conferred after the same time had elapsed since receipt of a second dose of vaccine among previously uninfected persons. A single dose of vaccine after infection reinforced protection against reinfection.
Interesting.  Looks like the best bet is to be sick and vaccinated!

Only you would notice that!

Maybe Townhall's IT budget is limited?  In any case, it is amazing how Kurt Schlichter has monetized the perpetual outrage folks like Richard live and breath.  I wonder sometimes about folks like Schlichter.  He writes an often funny column and lots of books that exude the titanium clad "I'm right, your wrong" right wing populist, Trumpist, worldview that Richard is locked into.  Is someone like Schlichter sincere in his writing, or is he laughing all the way to the bank?  I am sure we will never know.

In this particular article he is basically saying "as goes Wyoming, so goes the Nation."  He is the first to say that, and of course, I disagree.  Any sane person would disagree.  Even if the D's ran an inspiring Obama-type candidate in '24, I do not doubt that Trump would win Wyoming, SD, OK and so on, maybe up to Kentucky.  See below courtesy of 538.  But what does that get him?  100 EVs?   Of course if the Ds run Biden again it could be a nail biter.

Since I know you care about me Rich, I am letting you know that me and Ms. Brown are going to swing by the Safeway and get our 4th shots today.  We've been eligible for a while and haven't made the time.  We also are going to get our shingles vax one of these days soon.  According to my physician, the only reason not to is if, "you really like pain."  My older brother had shingles a while back and he agrees.

Hmmm.  I'll do some reading about that.   If Rod, James, Russ, or anyone else who is inclined to get a second booster wants to chime in, I'd appreciate it.

The current motivation is that we are doing some traveling next week and the week after.  That is crummy motivation of course, plenty of viruses circulating locally.  It is human nature though.  Way back when, more than 20 years ago I did some wills as part of a general practice law firm.  Virtually everyone came in for a will just before a trip by plane, even though they were probably just as likely to die driving around town.

Here is a good summary:

https://www.nytimes.com/article/covid-omicron-booster.html

Neither of us is immunocompromised and we are both over 50 but not old and both healthy.  So the answer of wait or get boosted is "yes or no...."

Since Linda had Omicron several months ago, it may make the most sense to wait.  I never tested positive, but since we took no efforts at all to keep separated, I would not be surprised if I had an asymptomatic case.  The local stores were out of test kits for much of the time.  I'll check with her to verify that her infection was within 6 months.  Time flies, it could have been further back than that, but I don't think so....   Thanks for flagging this issue.

I'm sure most of those are on your reading list.

My guess is that the Daily KOS is one  that your read Daily with your coffee.

And Congratulations on making sure that you put a virtue signal about getting vaccine #4, so the left can fawn all over you.  smile
I do read and enjoy the Atlantic.  This is a good left-biased but highly intelligent source.  I recommend it if you want to broaden your horizons.  I never read Yahoo News, HuffPo, or the Daily KOS.  I get my hard-left angles from Vox usually.  Basically, I follow the links on Real Clear Politics and that usually means the NYT, WaPo, Atlantic and VOX.  They link to your buds at Townhall and JustTheNews too, so I feel like I get a pretty good cross section.  I am partial to the Federalist as well, especially Mollie Hemmingway.  (I can hear Rod wretching all the way from California!).

I highly recommend the Atlantic though.  Good intelligent writing on the left.
