Get The USS John McCain Out Of Trump's Sight!

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Besides the emails, Trump said "well meaning" for the effort to  to cover up the ship. That in itself is nuts! But then again, we're dealing with wingnuts...

It's too bad they didn't get to him before he enacted his whacko tariff on Mexico today. It's not that they didn't try though, at least two of his top economic advisers tried placing the stable genius back into the fold of reality but they couldn't succeed because he's too far gone. If the US can't stop the immigrant flow, what chance does Mexico? They don't have the resources to stop it. The tariff today was enacted as some sort of punitive measure against Mexico and not on the basis of an economic rationale. The stock market and prominent GOP senators reacted accordingly. But what can you expect from a wingnut? And they're still not paying for the wall, either...

Greg "forgot" to include this from his cited poll:
"warning signs for the president."
"Only 37 percent of voters said they would definitely or probably vote for Trump in the 2020 presidential election, compared to 42 percent who said they would definitely or probably vote for the Democratic nominee."

Yup, especially when it comes to the 28 billion dollar bailout of American farmers due to the tariff war with China.
Consider one such recipient. He’s Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Grassley applied for a share of the first $12-billion government bailout announced last year. According to his spokesman, he’ll be applying for a piece of the additional $16-billion bailout Trump announced last week.
He’s entirely unabashed about having his palm out to be greased by a program over which he has legislative oversight. But, when it comes to the tariff's being applied to Mexico, “This is a misuse of presidential tariff authority and counter to congressional intent,” he said. Afterall, it it applies to  U.S. prices higher on autos, crude oil and produce, which compose a large share of imports from Mexico. And that doesn't affect his farm bailout so what the ----does he care? He's right down there with that other star GOP hypocrite, Mitch McConnell...

I see we have more information on the topic at hand:
"The White House Military Office coordinated directly with the Navy's Seventh Fleet to have the USS John S. McCain hidden from view during President Donald Trump's visit to Japan, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan told reporters Sunday, though that request was ultimately not carried out." And Trump told reporters Thursday that while he had no knowledge of the plan nor would he have acted on it, he "is not a big fan" of the Arizona senator, and whoever was behind the plan was "well-meaning." On Friday, Rear Adm. Charlie Brown, chief of Navy information, acknowledged in a statement that a request had been made "to minimize the visibility" of the ship, but noted that "all ships remained in their normal configuration" during Trump's visit. And now it was chalked up by the WH to a "well-meaning staffer":

As reported initially by the WSJ, the USS John McCain had to be hidden from Trump's view while in Japan.

Trickle-Down Economics. Literally a Joke.

Undoubtedly, someone will show up and shoot the messenger, but the CRS is a non-partisan public policy research arm of the US Congress that works for the Congress. Their entire reason for existence is to create meaningfully unbiased research on public policy that the Congress can then use to make informed decisions. The Republican tax cut was, in fact, a give away to the wealthy. For example, while the average corporate tax rate fell from 24% to 12%, the individual tax rate only fell from 9.6% to 9.2%. Full report here: https://www.everycrsreport.com/reports/R45736.html
After following these reports as well as previous ones from the CBO, the GOP response remains the same. That is, unless it supports them on the issues, it's always biased, political, partisan, ignoring the facts, not looking at the whole picture, etc, etc. Then, when confronted with reality, such as the time Mitch McConnell realized the reports were, in fact, accurate and the tax cuts were not going to pays for themselves, his response to that news was it's "disappointing". In the meantime. we're all screwed because they won't acknowledge the reports...

Full report here..."  That is a complex sentence, and I want to make sure that I am not misinterpreting your point.  The corporate tax cut will help the wealthy, the middle class and the poor as well, assuming that folks of all economic classes are working for corporations, and in the case of the middle class, investing in a 401k that uses date of retirement funds, index funds and the like, and in the case of everyone enjoying a growing economy.  Therefore, I see the corporate tax rate cut being a winner for all economic classes, not just the rich.

I certainly wish my individual rate were 9.6% or 9.2%!  Since it is not, maybe I did get a bigger tax break than my neighbor, but still I pay a lot of taxes.  These discussions of rate structure would be best carried out under the recognition that a progressive rate tax system can be tuned to optimize this or that desired result, with more or less hope of predictable economic results.   That is not the angle folks such as David'e initial "Joke" author take though!  They see everything through the lens of class warfare.

Jim
Hi Jim,
I'm going to jump in here for a moment and add a bit on the overall economic picture for the middle class. And by that I mean the current economic policies of the Trump administration. It should be obvious that means the tariffs and their negative impact on economic growth both nationally and globally. In the recent one on Mexico, even Trump's own team of economic advisers have attempted to dissuade him from pursuing it but to no avail. The tariffs amount to another tax on consumers, albeit a sales tax on affected commodities, since the cost is passed onto Americans buying the products. Look at the downturn in the stock market and the negative impact on 401ks. That's slamming a lot of people now and whatever they have saved from a tax cut is likely obviated by the decline in valuations in their portfolios...
