Lots of Solar System objects (Part 2)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I guess a header that says ..... Part 1 implies there is at least a Part 2. Yep!! The seeing conditions for the lunar shots were pretty good, but got worse as the evening progressed so that the Jupiter and Saturn images are only ordinary. Beleive it or not, I have a Part 3 coming later...

Eric,

Excellent image!! I'm glad someone is getting excellent images. Now that the moon is almost full, we can switch it off for a couple of weeks...LOL!!

Thanks for sharing.

Final lot of images for now....

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I have finally gotten all my images processed. Typically I don't get this many good lunar images. Seeing has cooperated quite a bit and I think the red filter also helped. Saturn...just when I think I am stuck with average images until it disappears, up jumps a decent image. Funny thing was that the evening I shot this group was quite breezy. My 9.25" was waving like a magic wand. Hard to believe the images would be so clean. I am hoping to get out tonite and see what happens.

Where are your DSO's taken

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I'm just curious where, in general, do you shoot your DSO's from? Planets can be shot from most anywhere, but in the old days (LOL!!) we had to go to very dark skies. Are these wonderful shots being taken from your backyards or do you go out away from cities to do this? I can see 4.5 mag stars in my backyard most of the time, so I'm curious if good DSO images are feasible from there?

Thanks and keep those beautiful images coming!

Updated Saturn Page

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

What with the unsettled weather here lately I decided to reprocess some older Saturn images from scratch and see if I have learned enough in the past 2 months to make them better. I redid my March 3 - March 17 images and posted them to my webpage. I have choosen not to keep the oldies and there is no comparison images. Overall I found my new techniques worked much better than the one's I used originally.

Here is the link:

I am tempted to go further back and do others as well.

Thanks!!

Focuser for a C925

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Given the choice between a JMI NGF-CM focuser ( http://www.buytelescopes.com/product.asp?pid=1236 ) or a WO SCT Crayford focuser ( http://www.buytelescopes.com/product.asp?t=&pid=3227&m=49 ), which would you buy? I use the C925 primarily for imaging, especially the planets though I'm looking more at DSO as well. I have a good wedge, so I won't all the time be using the scope in Alt-Az mode.

Thanks!!

Jupiter and Saturn from April 25, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

It was another interesting night last night. The wind was blowing about 10mph or so and Jupiter's globe was waving and bobbing all over the place. In fact I had to use my hand controller to keep Jupiter and Saturn in the FOV. Still, oddly the images turned out pretty well I think. I even tried my first animation!!

Jupiter animation from 0245UT - 0356UT April 26. It is a 4 image set. I'm inspired to get more frames next time!

And Saturn shot 15 minutes after sunset.

Hi all,

Seeing was pretty decent last night and I managed to get a pretty good Saturn and decent Jupiter.

AR756 (Sunspot image)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

The evening seeing has been bad, but after the clouds left on Friday I was able to get a fair image of AR756. Today seeing was much better and my image was sharper. It felt good going under my black hood to image the sun again!!
