On the morning of the 8th try to see the transit of Venus, as you will only get this one chance in your lifetime. It will be alreasy in progress as the sun rises the morning of the 8th. From Sattelite Beach you should have a great view if it is clear.
Our astronomy club will be observing from the Orlando area.

I believe Lumicon sells focal reducers that are designed for use with a 2" diagonal/and regular focuser (non-sct threads).

I was stationed at the Naval Ordinance Test Station at Chine Lake (Inyokern/Ridgecrest) back in the early 60's. Them were some fine dark skies back then! How are they these days? I imagine that area has grown with the expected light pollution as well since.

I have a 10" f/6 with full thickness mirror with an outstanding figure. I also had a 12.5" f/5.2 modified truss tube, full thickness mirror and excellent figure. I live in central FL with good to excellent seeing most of the time.
I could never see any major improvement in the 12 vs the 10, so sold the 12.
I recently purchased an older orange tube C8 that turns out to be one of those one in a thousand. My 10" has been gathering dust ever since. It only goes to star parties under really dark skies where the extra photons will be put to use.
I would say go for the 10" with an excellent figure, or maybe an 8". Mark Harry and others are noted for some really fine mid size mirrors that make killer planetary systems.

Check out the Astronomical League website and the S&T website. Both give excellent directions for quick polar alignments and then detailed methods of drift alignment to really tweal the alignment.

It was very nice here in Central FL as well. I wish I had known the tail was so long as I would have turned the camera vertical to get a little more.
350mm f/5.5 lens, 6 min exp on Fuji Superia 800 color neg film.
