Beautiful, majestic, transported from a bygone era. Only ~ $600K (and you thought big Taks were expensive 8) )

I was generally awed until they showed a close up of the pier where the RA housing sits. The whole massive assembly looks like it's resting on two 3/8-16 bolts!

The AstroMart FORUMS - What I like and HATE!

Posted By Greg Shaffer

What I like:

Pretty much everything.....

What I don't like:

As mentioned by a couple already....the 90 day limit on reading messages. I have a feeling that would be a hard one to address. I am guessing but I believe that function is also tied to the 90 day limit on ad listings and might be hard to separate. If I am not mistaken the search function searches the entire history in both ads and messages but you can only list the last 90 days (or less) unless you use the search function in both ads and messages?

15$ subscription

Manuel Mondejar said:

Hi..I have a question...I was an Astromart member for many Years ,then one day I got the old account closed ,and received notice of old free accounts needed to be upgraded to basic, one-year 15$ subscriptions in order to access the system and use the site..It took a while to upgrade because i live in Spain and dont use the classifieds ,that by the way is my main interest in this site...I finally upgraded and got a package with 40 free ads to use in the year..all good,I like to search the classifieds this time of year, prior to my annual trip to the USA ,in search of some equipment. But today i got a message from astromart ,urging me to upgrade to a less basic account and explaining the benefits of my recent (less than a month old)subscription..one of such benefits is the instant access to classifieds...FOR A MONTH..not a year,,A MONTH of INSTANT access to classifieds...can anyone explain the meaning of this?.Will i have access to the classifieds after that month, even if not instant?..I can wait a couple of minutes if this is what this is about...
Thanks and best regards to all..
Manuel

The $15 subscription is good for one year and includes the 40 ads you may post. It also includes one month of "supporter" access. A $15 "subscriber's" normal access includes a 4 hr delay in being able to see NEW ads. You will still see them but not until 4 hrs after they are posted.

"Supporters" are those who contribute more to the cause and the delay in seeing ads is removed. You can also choose to have new ads emailed to you as they are posted. There are several levels of "supporters" ranging from 1 month to 3, 6 or 12 months....with a lifetime option as well.

You received 12 months of "subscriber" access and 1 month of "supporter" access. At the end of that 1st month you will still have access to the ads but there will be a 4 hr delay and you wont be able to have them emailed to you......That is my understanding of how it works.

Do you like the new ad format better?

Posted By Greg Shaffer

I would say we share the same opinion regarding the change.....I like it, it is an improvement but like you I was also happy with the way it worked before.

Rolando Chavez said:

Initially, not at all. Now, with the pictures correctly displayed and price info underneath instead of on the right side, I consider it an improvement even though there was never anything wrong with the previous format.

"If Obama had a city, it would look like Detroit"

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Hmmmppff......if Obama had a COUNTRY, it would look like Detroit......

Ohhh wait he does and its already on that path lol

Dave Snope said:

Mark Steyn lays it down on Detroit:

With bankruptcy temporarily struck down, we’re told that “innovation hubs and “enterprise zones are the answer. Seriously? In my book After America, I observe that the physical decay of Detroit — the vacant and derelict lots for block after block after block — is as nothing compared to the decay of the city’s human capital. Forty-seven percent of adults are functionally illiterate, which is about the same rate as the Central African Republic, which at least has the excuse that it was ruled throughout the Seventies by a cannibal emperor. Why would any genuine innovator open a business in a Detroit “innovation hub? Whom would you employ? The illiterates include a recent president of the school board, Otis Mathis, which doesn’t bode well for the potential work force a decade hence.

Given their respective starting points, one has to conclude that Detroit’s Democratic party makes a far more comprehensive wrecking crew than Emperor Bokassa ever did. No bombs, no invasions, no civil war, just “liberal “progressive politics day in, day out. Americans sigh and say, “Oh, well, Detroit’s an ‘outlier.’ It’s an outlier only in the sense that it happened here first. The same malign alliance between a corrupt political class, rapacious public-sector unions, and an ever more swollen army of welfare dependents has been adopted in the formally Golden State of California, and in large part by the Obama administration, whose priorities — “health “care “reform, “immigration “reform — are determined by the same elite/union/dependency axis. As one droll tweeter put it, “If Obama had a city, it would look like Detroit.

Selling Your Used Equipment at ASTOMART!

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Hi Steven.....placing the actual ad is fairly simple.

Click on the "Classifieds" tab at the top of the page. Look on the left side of the screen and you will see about 4 boxes with options in them. One of those options says "Place a new ad"....click that and follow the prompts.

As for pricing your item(s) use the search function and find past examples of those items.....see what they sold for.....decide how much you need for yours. As for shipping....I usually include shipping in my price (within the US). Not a huge seller myself though, more of a packrat....

Decided whether to ship or require pickup would be too subjective IMO to offer advice on that....If I was selling a DOB it would be pickup only though.....

Steven D Cutcomb said:

As a new user, I think it would be helpful for an experienced seller to walk us through the process of deciding upon a price, deciding whether to require pick-up or ship, deciding who pays for shipping ... and then posting a Classified AD in ASTROMART. As a new user, I found the registration process for $15 sensible, then got verified, and am able to log in and see that as a non-vendor, I have 20 ads I may post. I am eager for that next step ... to find the elusive "post a classified ad!" link or button and get going, entering my information. Searching for it has taken me on a virtual tour of the entire site, and I have found many comparable ads for 5" - 12" SCT telescopes for sale, some local, some far away, and I have seen what everyone else posted. I am just eager to create and enter my own post next, and it has not been easy. ASTROMART CHAT has been busy or off-line, and I have started waiting to hear back from them about this topic. When I get an answer, I will be sure to try and help the next newbie over this important sales threshold ... their first ad placement! Until then ... I will lurk and wait. Looking forward to any input from experienced sellers on this! grin scutcomb @juno dot com, in Mountain View, CA, lover of astronomy, nature, and birds in particular, and very fond of M11, which seems to bring it all together for me!

Obamanation bs

Posted By Greg Shaffer

I am definitely right of center but I certainly don't support the removal of someone's constitutional rights because they are on assistance......Now if the authorities believe they have reason AND they get a legal warrant then go for it otherwise they should have the same right to privacy as anyone else.

So what's wrong with inspectors forcing their way into the doors of those on social welfare?
The right complains about the massive scamming of the system, wasting precious tax-payer dollars. Seems like you would be behind this 'verification' process.
