Here are some statistics I picked out, but there a lot more that have noting to do with SCOTUS or the overturning of Roe.
- Only 1/3 support the overturning of Roe.
- The least popular supreme court justices are Barret, Thomas, and Kavanaugh. By a wide margin, too; -12% in the case of Kavanaugh. All the Dem appointees are favorable by at least +13 or better.
- 60% disapprove of the way the supreme court is handling its job.
- Knowledge of the abortion ruling overturning Roe is very high at 84%.
- 64% believe the SCOTUS is a conservative court.
- 51% support increasing the number of justices.
- The personal importance of the abortion issue is 83%.
- People would support a candidate who would protect abortion rights over one who would curtail them by +13%.
- 68% support keeping abortion legal in most cases.
- 90% support keeping abortion legal for rape and incest.
- 76% oppose banning abortion pills.
- 82% oppose banning abortion travel across state lines.
Hi James:
I was struck by the overwhelming negativity of all the poll responses. Congress and the President do a little
worse than the Court. We are a nation of deep discontent.
Also, I think you overstate the bold part above. I looked at Kagan and Sotomayor - yes they are popular, but over 50% had never heard of them, or did not have enough info to form an opinion. In other words, Kagan was 19% favorable to 10% unfavorable. 71% had no opinion! Kavanaugh was 24/36 favorable to unfavorable. I think that this particular statistic is warped by the extensive press coverage of the Kavanaugh confirmation and Roe.
Also interesting. DeSantis does better than Newsome, and most importantly, this is in a poll where the responses on issues like abortion (as clearly demonstrated above), LBGTQ issues, and the like are fairly liberal. What do you make of that?
