Hardly a well-organized movement like the KKK, Proud Boys, etc. I can't speak to events elsewhere, but that's how it played out here. I can't imagine it was very different elsewhere.

Off to my observatory - have a good weekend all.
Thanks for the good conversation.  I just was at my observatory (just a walk for me.)  I'm finally getting back into imaging.  I'm all set up and ready to go.  If I get anything not embarrassing I'll post it here.  Have a great weekend!  Jim

Rod is reflecting the left's hard-ball politics here.  They are running against bogey-men like "Trump and MTG" in 2024.  Bogey men that in actuality would lose a lot of possible voters, like you.  Another hard-ball tactic is this "Haley is lying her head off" bit that Rod posted.  In reality, Nikki Haley has 10,000 times more integrity than Kamala Harris for example, but that will not pierce the bubble of 50% of the voters.

If my dream match up in '24 of Haley v. Harris were to happen, expect the press to paint Haley as a less-likable, less-honest, and more corrupt version of Donald Trump, without any of his better qualities.  The press will also cast her ethnicity and gender in a bad light, somehow.  A black host on the View already started that process (and failed mightily).  Rod will eat it up and re-post here though.

It's not like this sort of hard-ball politics is new.  The Rs ran against 'Clinton' for at least 12 years!  Jim

Hi Rod, I guess I am with Rich on this one.  I have no idea what your point is.  Kanye is not representative of mainstream conservatives or Republicans.  The anti-Semitic people out there have mostly migrated to the far left.  Like the students at Berkeley we commented on a few weeks ago.  The anti-Semitism expressed by several popular and admired Democrats, like the Squad, has always puzzled me.  Same with the anti-Semitism expressed over the years by prominent and influential blacks like Jessie Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, or Al Sharpton.

The whole BDS movement is sponsored by the left, isn't it?

What was your point in posting this?  Jim

Sane people like James and Russ here have given me hope that this will never happen.  Why would the Rs throw away a winnable election?  (scratch that, it is like asking "why did the Ds nominate the one candidate on earth who could lose in 2016?" )

Anyway, if Trump were to get the nomination, and he does select an election denying whack-job as running mate, it will make the vote easy for 60-70% of the voters.  I don't think it is too much to conclude that your favored R ticket, one that has no support from me or Greg is DOA.  Like they used to say, a stray dog with a note in his mouth that says, "elect me" could beat the Trump/fanatic ticket.

I am guessing that you personally will be terribly disappointed when Trump and election denialism fade from the scene.  That's OK, you can heap nastiness on whomever the Rs nominate.  It will be fine for you.  Not sure if CNN can eke out a  living in a non-Trumpian world though...

That kind of publicity hounding seems to work well in the United States.

Kanye West has a following on social media that probably exceeds the notables in your post. If anything, his following is increasing after his anti-semitic statements:   https://www.newsweek.com/kanye-west-twitter-instagram-following-increases-antisemitic-posts-1750722
Anti-semitic attacks in the USA are the highest they've ever been and I believe they exceed that of other minority groups.
So, Kanye's ravings and the support he enjoys is becoming more mainstream than you know...
I think you have sidestepped the fact that anti-Semitism is now largely, but of course not exclusively, a feature of the left.  The BDS movement is a dressed up attempt by the left to vilify Israel, and in many cases Israel is proxy for a generally anti-Semitic core.  Do you remember the famous "all about the Benjamins" quote?

As Rich and Brian have both observed, Kanye is a whack job who gets far more press than he deserves.  BDS is well coordinated, well funded and dangerous in my opinion.  Any thoughts?

p.s.  I should have said, "other than Rod?"  Rod's mode of operation since he and I first crossed paths about 20 years ago is to slam the right.  Ok, he is consistent and predictable.  I like that.  This is why un-commented Kanye link puzzled me.  Jim

BDS is a known entity in its beliefs and actions. There's no mistaking its agenda whereas the right wing groups and individuals behind similar motivations are more clandestine and use MAGA as a cover for their goals. "Stand back and standby" comes to mind...
Do you personally believe she was sincere?  I do not.  Who do you think presently poses the greatest threat to Jews internationally;  the BDS/US academic left alliance that is legitimizing anti-Semitism for a whole generation of young Americans, or the fringe white supremacists out there on the right?  I am sure it is obvious that in my opinion the greater threat is the BDS/US academic left alliance.

No, I don't think so.  (Neither is Kanye, to my knowledge...)   The BDS is a widespread movement that is very active on university campuses.  BDS stands for Boycott, Divest, and Sanction.  They are very anti-Israel and work hard to shame companies into economically isolating Israel.  A lot of their activities come across as anti-Jew rather than supporting Palestinians.  They are well organized and pervasive.  It is shocking how many young people have been indoctrinated into very anti-Israel positions at university.
