Ted Cruz Hid In A Closet On Jan 6th

Here is the Newsweek article, with a lot of quotes from the book.  Sorry, but no page numbers.  Hopefully the quotes (in quotation marks) are legit.

So, did Cruz cower in a dark and cramped closet fearing for his life?  No, he did not.  I'd submit that this is the image the headline writers (and Rod) are shooting for.  Did Cruz shelter in a "back room (really, a supply closet with stacked chairs)" (his words) while holding an impromptu meeting with his coalition?   Yes, in his own words he did.  So the headlines are technically true.  No lie here Richard, you probably use that word too often.   But in my opinion, the headlines are quite misleading.

Ted Cruz Hid In A Closet On Jan 6th

So I'll simply posit this question to you Jim.

Is that what you would characterize as accurate unbiased reporting of News?

Or is that article an opinion piece that Mike Rosen would characterize as Opinion Masquerading as News?

The other article that Rod linked characterized Cruz as "Hiding in a closet".

That News organization also put up their opinion piece as a news article, when it was full of their spin on the subject.

I'll characterize their News piece as opinion because they made their assertion that Cruz "hid in a closet", based upon this statement in his book:

“In the fog of the confusion, it was difficult to tell exactly what was happening,” Cruz wrote. “We were informed that a riot had broken out and that rioters were attempting to breach the building.

“At first, Capitol Police instructed us to remain on the Senate floor. And so we did. Then, a few minutes later, they instructed us to evacuate rapidly.”

Obviously the tensions were high that day and Cruz and the other Senators who accompanied him chose to go to a back room and discuss the situation.

As I stated in my other response, a Prudent person would obey the POLICE when they instructed the Senators to evacuate.

I'm just stating this rhetorically because I know you're not a fool like Rod.  Where would Rod suggest they go or what should they have done?

Obviously when the Cops say don't go this way because the rioters are over there, a prudent person looks for a place where rioters won't find them.
The Guardian piece is clearly opinion masquerading as news.   It is totally biased.  What political writing is not, these days?

I have no doubt that the headline writers (p.s. and Rod, see immediately above) want to conjure an image of Cruz cowering like a child in a dark closet.  It appears that a more accurate version of events is that the Capital Police directed Cruz and others to a secure back room, (a closet actually) where he had a meeting with like-minded Senators while waiting the riot out.  They obviously had a lot to talk and worry about.

The media bias does not bother me nearly as much as it bothers you.  The Guardian is well known to be left of center and is obviously anti-Cruz.  It is relatively easy to just consider the source and presume that outlets like the Guardian will paint Cruz in as bad a light as they think they can get away with.  Same with right leaning or hard right outlets, but obviously in the other direction.

For what it is worth, I wish that the media was without political bias and that there were outlets where you could trust the media to vigorously and honestly pursue the truth on political topics, no mater where it leads.  On a lot of topics, I do trust the media.  Just not on politics.  I wish it were not this way, but as Mike Rosen often said, I wish I was taller too!  Jim

Hi Jim,

Funny, or sad, your observation can not be denied.   I'm hoping for some good discussion here after election day.  Rich, the outrage machine, has made it more than tedious recently.  I suppose two things can happen - a red wave, in which case Rich will gloat and posture and no real discussion can occur.  Or maybe the Ds hold at least part of Congress, in which case Rich will sulk and allow the rest of us to chat amiably.   We'll see!  Jim

Hmm... the typical arrogance and usual self-righteousness of Jim Brown rears its head here on the forum once again.

That's a shocker isn't it (LOL).

But guess what Jim?  That's ok, if its your opinion of me.  I can take any insult from you that you care to dish out about me.  smile

And guess what again Jim?  You're free to take their crap as well and get walked all over.  I decided a long time ago, I was no longer taking the hypocritical crap from these double standard, continuously insulting leftists here, and I'd challenge them.

And your method of that's ok, if it works for you.

Its how you've operated your entire life is my best guess.

But then again, we are 2 very, very different personalities aren't we?  smile

Me, I'm type (whatever  you personally care to label me as you do regularly), the guy who doesn't back down from a fight.  When a guy comes at me or any of my family or friends with a knife, I'm the guy that takes on the guy out front.  Its just my nature.

You, you're the type of guy who when out with his family and friends, and confronted by someone wanting to do them harm, will hide behind his grown children or perhaps his wife, while trying to reason with the assaulter.  (I guess that's just your nature, and you can't help it).

As I said, that's just what I would call a distinguishable difference between the 2 of us.

I'm tired of the double standard they employ always, and I mean always, both here and throughout the Democrat party.

When people on their side of the aisle throw blame for attacks on their politicians, on every Republican, it doesn't matter to you.

You'll excuse it, and like I said, that your nature to take it.   Me, I'll confront them almost 100% of the time, because their hypocrisy and their insults need to be confronted every single time, because if it isn't they just grow bolder with their lies and their insinuations and insults about all Republicans they don't like.

That's apparently what you don't get.

Maybe you believe that people respect the cowardice you show towards them because you're non-confrontational with them?

Perhaps that's true.  In my weird world of politics though, I've never respected a coward who lets the other political party walk all over them, and cast aspersions on them the way this piece of garbage President did the other night, using his despicable method of using his pejoratives to label 10's of millions of Americans, implying once again that we're all over here on the right side of the aisle, a bunch of violent hooligans and asserting that crazy people solely occupy my side of the political aisle while never mentioning or even acknowledging that there are crazy members in his party who are just as nuts and attack politicians on the right.

I don't recall this lowlife, senile dirtbag, who has always been the way he is, ever making commentary even about those violent people on the left, who tried to assassinate Brett Kavanaugh.

I don't recall him even commenting on Steve Scalise, and the rest of the Republicans on that baseball diamond a few years back who was a staunch Bernie Sanders supporter.

You want to hear a piece of irony that you will ignore?  When Republican Senator Rand Paul was attacked by his neighbor who broke his ribs and put him in the hospital, which resulted in Senator Paul requiring a Partial lung removal, not a leftist here even commented on it.  They didn't care. In fact I think I recall a couple of the leftists here mocking him after the attack.  It was really pretty sick of them.

Here's the irony though.  Guess who made tweets that day MOCKING Rand Paul, saying "His neighbor was right"?

Who do you think tweeted that mocking, despicable comment?

If you guessed that Nancy Pelosi's very daughter did, then you win the prize.

At the time, it was ignored.  Had that been turned around and Rand Paul would have mocked Paul Pelosi the way Nancy Pelosi's daughter mocked Senator Paul that day, he would no longer be a Senator.  The Left would have made sure of that.  They would have put together a committee to investigate him and dig up dirt on him, looking under every rock and in every crevice to find something to use against him to get him tossed out of the Senate.

Like I said now several times in my single response here, you're free to take that crap.  That's your character, be it faulty or not IMO.

And there you go, You are free to label my response above, in any way you see fit, with your usual insinuations about my character and your typical aspersions.

I quit caring about your opinion of me a long, long time ago.  Your insults simply run off like water off of a duck's back. wink

So there's my response, now its your turn to counter my posting with your erudite, educated response and show all the leftist hypocrites how smart you are.  smile

And P.S.:  Since you want to label all of my recent postings as outrageous the way you did, I'd disagree.  Simply pointing out the fact in each of my postings there, which you listed with your screenshot, isn't "outrageous" as you labeled them all.

If they are as you say, then I'll challenge you to pick out even half of them and indicate which part of the postings I made there, is "outrageous".  My guess is that you'll fail miserably, because once again you've adopted all these traits of the left.  One of the traits is to mis-characterize peoples' writings.
Too long Rich, I did not read.  The picture I posted with my earlier comment says it all, don't you think?

I gotta ask Greg, what the hell were you doing (twice) where people pull knives on you?  I don't think most 60+ year olds get into those situations!   I would guess Sturgis, or some other rally, but seriously, I thought that the biker crowd was calmer now-a-days than the old cliché's, having matured enough to be out of the knife-fighting demographic?  I may be wrong.   You sure don't seem like the type who would be engaging with 20 something year old gangsters in a turf war though!  Jim

Actually I did not!  Believe me or not.  I have never lied to you before, and I do not intend to lie to you in the future.  I read Greg, Jim M., James', Brian and David's replies with interest though!   (Especially Greg's!)  I skimmed your replies to them.  I read the reply above.  So I saw your part about knife fighting quoted several times.  Jim

I'm not sure I understand.  I enjoy being friends with Democrats (or former Republicans) like Jim M., James, Brian, Rod, and so on.  The insights I gather from these guys are often very informative.  Is this willingness to engage with those who do not agree with me defined in your world as "being a doormat for the left?"  If so, I guess you have a point.

But my positions and voting are still very typical Republican.  For example, maybe you missed me and Brian going back and forth over Nikki Haley's possible candidacy?  Things like that.  I think Jerod Polis is a reasonably good governor, but I voted for his R opponent, Heidi Ganahl, who is very impressive.  I heard a lot from her on Mandy Conell's show.  I usually agree with Mandy just like I always agreed with her predecessor, Mike Rosen.  My admiration for R Joe O'Dae is well documented here.

I broke ranks to vote against Trump.  Is this defection what defines "being a doormat for the left?"  I suppose it could be, from your perspective.  People like you, Trump, and far too many others do seem to equate "being on the right" with hating, mocking, and attacking those on the left.  That is certainly not me.  In my view, polarization is a big problem and I want candidates who can be part of the solution, not those who would exacerbate the problem.  Jim
