Has GWB attended even one of the following:

- the return of US Servicemen dead?

- a memorial service for same?

-a serviceman/woman's funeral?

If so, please tell me when?

One Down, Two to Go

(i was beginning to wonder if anyone else noticed...)

The people of Spain have resoundingly rejected:

1) their (former) government's rush to judgement of ETA as the perpetators of last week's bomb outrage, especially in the Basque region.

2) their (former) goverment's rush to back GWB's attack on Iraq, and the committing of Spanish armed forces to the conflict.

(Oh, and they seem to want the "Socialist Nanny-state" too, whilst they're about it. Ain't democracy great?)

To it's credit, i'll say this: i almost expected the (former) government to declare Martial Law, "temporarily" suspend elections and civil liberties, and mobilise the remaining reserve forces, turning Spain into an armed camp. There seems to be historical precident for such actions, and i must say i am somewhat surprised at the turn of events in this regard.

Also: i would not want to be either a Basque or a Moslem in Spain right about now... i'd not have been too surprised if there had been lynchings throughout the countryside by now.

i wonder what the results would have been here given similar circumstances and timing?

Couldn't stand the sight of him... him with his "secret peace plan" in his jacket pocket... did he send it to the cleaners without emptying the pockets? Lying... half-a$$ed breakings and whitewash... paranoia... Spiro T. Agnew, too... what an embarassment!

Toss in Ford for pardoning the miserable creature and for some of the best life insurance a president ever had- Nelson Rockefeller, the Butcher of Attica.

Yes.

Heard the news this AM on the radio... partial BBC report. it will be interesting indeed to see if and how this story is carried by various news services.

Wasn't it Rumsfeld who called Iraq a "target-rich environment?" It's never been truer.

Photos of bodies in Iraq

i have not sought out these or any other photos of the corpses of these four human beings. i do not intend to view them.

There have been all-too graphic accounts of their fate aired on radio reports. i do not feel the need to see them.

i agree with the editors of publications that refrained from running these photos.

By now, the families and friend of these people have been notified and cannot indeed avoid any media accounts of their deaths. As a mater of human decency and dignity, i feel that the publication of these images -and BTW any images of such things- is, on the face of it, ghoulish.

If OBL thinks that such discussion and criticism of the Administration is a sign of weakness, then he completely misunderstands how a truly free society and democracy functions.

If anyone expects that this discussion ought to be limited or otherwise curtailed because it "emboldens" our enemies, they also completely misunderstand how a truly free democratic society functions.

Who's the weaker for it? Us or OBL?

Heir as in inheriting the same type of thinking that involved us in the Viet Nam Quagmire? Heir as in inheriting the same sort of strategic bumbling and micro-management that kept the SE Asian conflict going far too long? Heir as in inheriting the same sort of fraud as the Tonkin Resolution when applied to WMD? Heir to the same sort of hubris that declared that we were "liberating" the people of Viet Nam from tyranny as we now declare ourselves to be "liberating" the Iraqi people?
