For the record you're a math illiterate.

I thought you claimed to be some kind of math guy?

You can't even calculate simple percentages into their fractional equivalent in your head?

I'm guessing that you really don't know math because if I remember correctly I learned how to do that around 2nd grade.

Let's get some other facts straight here.  Your posting said 99.99% of people couldn't survive a knife attack.  It did not say 99.999%.

You wrote 99.99% here in posting #6:  https://astromart.com/forums/commentary-careful-read-the-terms-of-service/politics/this-is-a-funny-place?page=1

Your words from that post:  JL:  " Running away is the only practical way to survive a knife attack for 99.99% of the population"

Not a big deal that you didn't remember that.

However, your other statement above that I placed in Bold is SO damned stupid, I'm hard pressed as to how to even approach such a statement that indicates such illiteracy in basic math.

You claimed that 99.999% translates to 1 in 99,999 people.  WRONG.  It translates to odds of 1 in 100,000 people, not 1 in 99,999 people.

I have to say that I'm truly shocked that you would put your ignorance on display here for the whole world to see, (LITERALLY since this is worldwide website).

In fact, your response is just SO damned stupid that I'm almost embarrassed for you that I have to correct your statement.

To calculate percentages, fractional equivalents are taken as a portion of 100%.  Simple enough to understand, correct?

I'll try to make this easy for a person with a 2nd grade understanding of math OK?

Let's take a raffle of tickets to win a prize so that you can follow the bouncing ball.

If we have a raffle involving 10 tickets, and we sell all 10 tickets, and choose out of the barrel 1 ticket to take the prize, then there are 9 people who will NOT win the prize and 1 person who WILL win the prize.  That translates to 1 in 10 odds, not 1 in 9.  That's because 10 tickets were sold, not 9.

Well then, if I say 9/10 people will not win a raffle of 10 tickets, and 1 person will, that translates to odds of 1/10 winning.  Do you agree?

It isn't 1 in 9 will win. 1/10 will win.

Now then if we continue on and I have a raffle of 100 tickets and 100 people play, then there are 99 people who will NOT win the raffle and 1 person WILL win the raffle.

That translates into odds of 1/100 people, not 1 in 99.

Now then let's just extrapolate the numbers out shall we?

If the raffle is for 1 winner in 1000 tickets sold, then the odds of 1 person winning is 1/1000 tickets sold, NOT 1/999 tickets.

If the raffle is for 1 winner in 10,000 tickets sold, then the odds of 1 person winning is 1/10,000 NOT 1/9,999.

And subsequently if the raffle is for 1 winner in 100,000 tickets sold, that means 99,999 did NOT win, but 1 did.

That translates to 1/100,000 NOT 1/99,999 as you stated above.

If you can't even calculate simple percentages in fractional form you are utterly ignorant as far as math goes.   shocked

(insert head slap here)

How sad is Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Charlie Crist?

I answered myself:

1.  Kemp is competent and popular
2.  Kemp is the incumbent
3.  Abrahms has worn out her welcome and is an easier opponent
4.  Most importantly, the religious right, many of whom actually do hold life sacred, can't have been too pleased with Walker's love-babies and alleged abortions.

In such a climate, the only thing Walker has going for him in the runoff is Kemp's support (I presume).  Who do you think wins the runoff this time around?  Like two years ago, control of the Senate probably hangs on this runoff.

Jim
p.s.  Walker now has a slim lead, but this race is effectively tied and heading to a runoff.  (I think)
p.s.s.  Nope, Warnock is up, according to the GA SOS.

You realize that you were replying to Rod, don't you?  I've know Rod on the AM forum for 20 years and he has never said he's a Republican.  I can hear him puking all the way from CA right now!

If you mixed up me for Rod then your post is still gibberish.  I would prefer for the Rs to win the Senate.  I am predicting another 50/50 split with AK and NV going R and AZ and GA going D.

AK is going to be R of course, just not sure who will win.  I certainly hope it is the incumbent.  I am not sure why AZ is considered close.  The D seems to be up by quite a bit and the remaining votes are from the urban areas (I think).

I think Polis handled the pandemic well.  He is generally pro-business.  I think he is doing poorly on homelessness and crime.  I would have preferred Heidi Ganahl, but my candidates (O'Dea, Anderson, Ganahl) were not even competitive.

Speaking of Colorado - you might not have seen this yet, but the stupid bill to have high income earners pay for free school lunches for rich kids (a back-door shot at TABOR) passed.  Meanwhile, the overall state income tax was reduced.  That schizophrenic result shows how the ballot initiative system can be corrupted by  misleading titles and advertisements.  Sometimes I think our populace is too stupid or confused to handle the ballot initiative process...

Virtually every initiative I favored, you too I bet, failed.  Virtually all of them I opposed, you too I bet, passed.  Except for the reduced income tax.  Yay for the good guys.  No consistency at all.

And of course I love living in Colorado.   Good grief, if living in a red state meant so much to you or anyone else, real estate is cheap in South Dakota!   The governor only matters a little.  Jarod will do well enough.  We must forever remain vigilant to defend TABOR.  That is the only issue that really matters.  Jim

Can you explain that?

You misinterpreted my post.  I don't love the fact that Colorado is blue.  Actually, I was pretty clear in my post that I liked it better when we were a legitimate reddish but trending purple swing state.  But Colorado is blue.  That's a fact, as you like to say.  I wish Polis was more like some of our former D governors (Dick Lamm for example) but he is not.  He could be a lot worse - Gavin Newsome for example.

I still love living in "blue" Colorado for all the reasons everyone knows.  First and foremost it is beautiful, I like the people, I love the weather, it has been a great place to raise a family, the recreation opportunities are endless and so on.  I could type at length, but there is no need.  The political climate does not effect any of this.

I like visiting "blue" California.  I love hiking in "red" Wyoming.  I really like diving in "blue" Hawaii too, but none of these things are political.

Keep codifying abortion rights into state constitutions...
This will help Republicans in the next several cycles.  I see a near-term future where abortion has been effectively settled at the state level for all 50 states, and is no longer a political hot-button issue.  Some state will ban abortion, but those states probably didn't have any clinics in 2021 anyway.

I don't want to re-do 50 years of discussions, but me and RBG both think that the primary evil of Roe is that it took this issue away from the people (states) prematurely.

Several conspiracy nut election deniers did win though.  Hopefully a small enough number to be just a relic or bad memory.

Almost - more correct to say 1 to 99,999.
