I'm convinced at this point that Trump doesn't care about the midterms. He knows they are lost. What he's trying to do, though, is maintain control of the party so he has enough support to avoid being impeached or worse. What Trump fears the most is a Republican party with a spine, so he's showing them that if any of them oppose him, he will destroy their political future and install loyalists wherever he can. This is why, for example, he's endorsing controversial loyalists, like Paxton in Texas, rather than incumbents like Cornyn. There have been several smart op-eds lately that lay out this thinking, and it does seem to explain Trump's behavior to a large degree, at least as it pertains to the midterms. Trump obviously doesn't care about governing competently and rationally. What he needs is an enemy to fight, so that he can claim persecution, which is exactly what a Democrat-controlled House would give him.

I didn't even know anything about Platner until you posted this, but it took me all of 1 minute to ascertain that, once again, your "facts" are anything but facts. Instead, as usual, you are leveling wild and speculative claims that seem to have little basis in fact and are far from proven. Platner is no Nazi. In fact, there are far more facts showing that Paxton is probably the most corrupt state politician we have ever seen. Yet, you completely ignore the corruption in your party and instead choose to name-call and sling completely unverified political attacks as fact. There is far more evidence that Trump is an authoritarian with fascist leanings than there is that Platner is a "Nazi."

Most of us here don't have a problem criticizing Democrats when it's warranted. But you never apply the same standards to Republicans and Trump that you apply to Democrats. You are not evaluating the evidence or presenting facts; you are defending a team and, honestly, doing a pretty poor job of it.

Yes, he's a bad candidate, and the Democrats should replace him if possible. And yes, he had a questionable tattoo and a lot of other baggage that make him an easy target. Of course, the same critics who claim he is a Nazi also ignore all of the stuff that has come to light, an apparent treasure trove of Reddit posts, for example, where he also adamantly and repeatedly extols himself as militantly anti-fascist. The anti-fascist side of Platner is exactly why some on the left like him too, since they see him as willing and able to challenge the fascists they see in the Republican Party. It's all rather comical and confusing at the same time, to be honest, but Platner is no Nazi; he's just a deeply flawed candidate.

You know, it might be fun to wonder what would happen if Davis were running for political office and his posts here from Astromart were used to formulate political attacks against him. They would certainly be some real doozies!

Davis' real hat trick is his ability to attack and recognize flaws in the Democratic Party, while at the same time being completely unable to recognize them in himself or the Republican Party. It completely undermines his credibility, and the inability to turn criticism inward is a hallmark of a lack of self-awareness, which we all know by now he also suffers from greatly. Anyone like Davis who has defended all of Trump's flaws, corruption, and wrongdoings with a stubborn relentlessness has lost the privilege to judge anyone else's candidates.

It's funny, you know. The whole Clinton-Lewinsky scandal seems quite tepid and quaint at this point. I mean, I get it: Clinton lied under oath and tried to cover it up, but come on, the extensive catalog of Trump's falsehoods and controversies is beyond the pale. Legal indictments, abuse of power, scandals, repeated lies and falsehoods, all sorts of political disinformation, the "Big Lie," and of course the Epstein cover-up, which The NYT reported on just yesterday.

Trump is undoubtedly the worst President we have ever had, and hopefully the likes of which will never be seen again.
