We are just 11 people who actually post here. There may be lurkers but I doubt it....
What are we accomplishing? No one has had an Epiphany yet, in either political direction. No one of any importance whatsoever takes note of what we say....
And, yet, here we are...
Weird, eh?

Hi Dave - interesting post. You have more or less described human life for 99.999% of humanity. No one but the occasional MLK, Gandhi, or Jefferson accomplishes much the
rest of the world would consider important. Still, I think my career in law and yours in teaching have no doubt affected many people in extremely positive ways. We all should be pleased and hopefully satisfied with what we have accomplished, even though our accomplishments make no measurable difference in the big picture. The key is that 7 billion people who accomplish a little in their own small patch add up to some great accomplishments.
As I see it, here we have 11 or 12 friends who occasionally waste some time chatting with each other about interesting topics. We do this with our own in-person friends and family too. Humans are social animals, and this is a social forum. Usually. It has value, to me at least, even if we never accomplish anything of importance. Obviously at least 1/2 of the dialog here is just interpersonal sniping. Richard thrives in that environment. The rest of us must enjoy it somewhat, or we would have bailed long ago. Jim
