In a nutshell, they were pushing to obtain the stolen emails, so it looks like they have been trying to work with foreign governments to dig up dirt on political rivals for a long time. None of it should surprise us, though since Trump admitted to Stephanopolous in an interview sometime back now that he would gladly accept dirt about a domestic opponent from a foreign government. There was a big brouhaha after that interview, and Trump and his team walked the comment back, but as usual, if you listen to Trump, he is entirely transparent and tells you exactly who he is.
Like Mulvaney said, "it happens all the time"...

"It Was Legal"

Now, faced with overwhelming evidence that the Quid Pro Quo, did, in fact, occur, GOP senators are planning to argue it was legal:

Meanwhile, Trump. after reiterating his call was "perfect", traveled to a rally in Mississippi, where he railed against Hillary's emails while the crowd chanted, "lock her up".
There you have it...

$100.00 Saw Works/Trump's Wall Doesn't

An erudite summation, as always, but I'd add one more thing: the only real wall here is the stonewall the GOP relentlessly puts forth around Trump. No matter how many of their arguments have fallen by the wayside in front of a parade of facts, they still stubbornly buttress the Trump brand. One glaring example: when Vindmen shared his experience while listening in on the quid pro quo call, the GOP dismissed it as,"his opinion". When he pointed out the serious omissions from the transcripts of the call, he only "supposed" they were there. That's just a taste of what will happen from the GOP in the senate...

They're easily sawing thru Trump's multi-million dollar border wall in "a matter of minutes". So much for the idea that "walls work"!

And that's money that has been diverted from the defense department, too.

What has changed? They protected the whistleblower during the BO administration, what's different now? Holder got censured by congress for it. Why didn't the GOP leak out the name then?
Jim,

Like the changing GOP defense of the president's QUID PRO QUO call, the latest being yesterday's nonsense from Lindsey Graham that the administration was just too dumb to know what it was doing, The GOP's take on keeping the whistleblower secret changes with which GOP member you happen to ask on any given day:

And, of course, your recollection of what happened with the GOP during the Obama years is correct...

Oh, and one more thing, the bottom line is most importantly, despite all of the previous and current GOP/CON conspiracy theories about the whistleblower, everything he said about the quid pro call is, of course, TRUE...
