Looks like the Biden team in the runup to and immediately before the 2020 Presidential election were colluding w/Twitter

Why don't you put forth any evidence to support your claim "extreme right wing propaganda site"? I'll look at it.

Several examples will do.

I can put forth tons of evidence to back up my claims and I often do, commenting upon it.

I can put forth evidence of suppression of stories and spin by the authors along with the easy ability to show how most of the leftist news today consists of nothing more than "opinion" pieces masquerading as news. by your leftist sources.

Here's my informed guess at what your response will be:

JL:  "I don't need to waste my time proving my accusations. Anyone can see the facts.  They are self-evident and right in front of everyone's faces".  smile
Hi Richard:

For me, the evidence is overwhelming in a casual perusal of the site.  Look at the motto on their web store.  Also, look at the way they handled the poll:  No published data or cross tabs, no demographics and so on.  Pick any political article published on NewsBusters that is susceptible to bias and I can guarantee that it is right biased.  No, I can guarantee that it is extremely right biased.  From today:

https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kevin-tober/2022/12/06/dnc-tv-abc-nbc-hype-walkers-scandals-ignores-warnocks-anti-semitic

This is all the evidence I need.  Look, I enjoy discussing these things with you when we are both in a civil mood.  In the interest of continued civility,  please accept my explanation above as my point of view.  I am not going to take the time to dig up an infinite number of specific examples from the web page to satisfy your request, at least not above and beyond those we have already talked about.

You can certainly now proceed to rile me up by extrapolating some sort of rhetorical "win" from my reluctance to take the time to play the game, but I hope you don't.   Rather than that, please accurately conclude that we disagree about the bias and reliability of MRC and NewsBusters and leave it at that.  J

Hi Richard:

In this case, I think that your "guess" response for James is a perfectly acceptable characterization of my own response.  I really do feel that the extreme right bias of MRC/NewBusters is self-evident based upon my own perusal of the sites yesterday.  Like I said too, in my opinion the best option is to disagree civilly on this point.  Jim

p.s. we should disagree if we actually disagree.  How would you rate the bias of MRC on a scale of extreme left to left to center to right to extreme right?  I'm not going to tell you that you are wrong of course, if we disagree.

SCOTUS To Hear Harper V. Moore Next Week

Vox is also reporting that you can breath somewhat easier, Rod.  I have not studied these issues at all.  I can say that I trust the Court, Alito, and Thomas included, to not "destroy democracy."  So I think the more breathless headlines are bogus.  Also it appears that ACB is your gal on this one.

Just for the record, I have not forgotten the breathless headlines when the "prior consent" aspects of the Voting Rights Act were considered.  Now, a couple of years later, I am confident that the Courts refusal to extend the prior consent doctrine did not destroy democracy either, no matter what the headline writers wrote at the time...  It is extremely likely that Harper is a bigger deal than the Voting Rights Act prior approval case was/is.  The Court will get it right.  Jim

I have not yet read the briefs.  Still, the Vox reporting you linked to is too breathless to be credible at all.  From the article:

As Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in a 2020 concurring opinion endorsing the ISLD, “the Constitution provides that state legislatures — not federal judges, not state judges, not state governors, not other state officials — bear primary responsibility for setting election rules.” Notably, this opinion was joined by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who currently sits at the conservative Supreme Court’s ideological center.

The Vox author acts like this quote from Gorsuch is the end of democracy.  It is not.  On the contrary, it is a statement of fact.  State legislatures do indisputably bear primary responsibility for setting election rules.  Primary responsibility, is not unfettered, unquestionable authority.

Maybe the petitioners are arguing that state legislatures are granted sole and unappealable authority by the Constitution for setting election rules.  I have not read their brief.  In other words, maybe they are arguing for no governor veto, no court oversight, no Supreme Court oversight at all to implement the 14th Amendment and other key aspects of the Constitution.

The rest of the Vox article admits that the petitioners are not going that far.  Even if they were, I suspect the Court will confirm:

A.  That the state legislatures do have primary responsibility for setting election rules.  Good.
B.  That the lower Courts and state executive branches should not be permitted to make up rules as they go, as is alleged to have happened in 2000.
C.  On the flip side, I expect the Court to confirm that the state legislature's authority is not unappealable, is not absolute, and absolutely is subject to the state Constitution, veto, and judicial review, in the normal course of judicial review.

ACB, Roberts and others certainly are leaning that way, based upon the questioning today.

p.s.  Just for Richard - I think it is self evident from a casual review of Vox that they are left biased.  In political matters Vox is extremely left biased.  Some of their straight reporting on non-political topics is quite good and balanced though.  Jim

That bill was one of Animus DeSantis' trademark pieces of legislation.
"During a press conference ahead of signing the law, DeSantis said teaching kindergarten-aged kids that "they can be whatever they want to be" was "inappropriate" for children."
"He said, "It's not something that's appropriate for any place, but especially not in Florida."
"Leading up to the bill's signing, critics, which include The Walt Disney Company, lambasted Florida lawmakers for the legislation."
"On Monday, a spokesperson said in a statement that the company hopes the law is repealed or struck down in court."

In response:
"DeSantis revokes Disney's special status after ‘Don’t Say Gay’ opposition"
"Requested by the Republican governor, the two bills punishing Disney were made public on Tuesday and signed into law by DeSantis roughly 77 hours later following a special legislative session originally called to address congressional redistricting."

"Animus DeSantis" in action...
So - I don't want to put words in your mouth Rod, but is it fair to say that if DeSantis is nominated, you won't vote for him?

Heck no, I barely know anything about him!  If he is the nominee, I'll form an opinion over the course of 2023 and 2024.  Assuming I have not grown entirely tired of this forum, I'll let you know when the time comes.  Jim
