It looks like we have a race going on. Will we find WMD's (Weapons of Mass Destruction) in Iraq before we find WMD's (Weapons of Mass Deception) in the White House? ;-)

Last Tuesday night I had a nice experience with an old 6" f8 Cave Astrola. When I got it, it was filthy with dirt on the mirror and rusty hardware. I cleaned the mirror and diagonal as well as possible. The primary mirror has some scratches in the plating and about 5% of the plating is gone. The secondary is missing plating in a 1/8" diameter spot. I did a quick collimation and set it up next to my Questar 7. Early that morning, this old Astrola was giving views of Mars that were almost as good as the Questar!

George may take one, but I suspect the whole team will go first. It appears that Tenet was molested in the Oval office, I just hope that he saved the dress.

At least it is only a matter of life or death for thousands, of the future and security of this country, and of the credibility of the Nation. It could have been a lie about a sexual act between consenting adults.

I accidentally deleted this post (the first in the string) instead of editing it so here it is again.

Weapons of Mass Deception have been found in Washington. There has been one casualty. A Bush soldier, George Tenet (2nd Division 1st Platoon), took a hit through the ethics that lodged in his credibility. The wound appears to be superficial since our sources in the Capital tell us that they see no change in his activities...

The President has ordered the Director of Homeland security to use any means necessary to eliminate these terrorist threats to his popularity...

Oops got to go, there's a grey Ford parked out front and two men in suits are knocking on my door...

Is Bush using Saddam Hussein's playbook?

According to newspaper articles and a PBS interview yesterday, it appears that the administration wants to have "monitors" preset while the bipartisan independent commission investigating 9/11 interviews administration staff. The commission complains that monitors will prevent the interviewee’s from speaking truthfully.

Isn't this the same situation that Bush complained about when the UN inspectors wanted to interview Iraqi nuclear scientists?

Why did Bin Laden swithch targets?

In a PBS interview last night, one of the members of the independent commission to investigate 9/11 said something like: "We know that Bin Laden switched targets from the Saudi royal family and Egyptian leadership to America."

Does anyone have any information on why he switched?

Another interesting angle it that if Bin Laden was targeting the Saudi royal family, the 9/11 attacks were in the Saudi government's best interests since they were a trigger to bring out the full power of the US against Bin Laden. Did they have a motive to assist the terrorists, or at least look the other way?

These people don't have our values and probably don't understand our values. Those broadcasts are probably as normal to them as Sunday morning cartoons are to us.

Our cultures and values are so far apart that it is difficult make judgements like this.

On a trip to Saudi Arabia in the 70's in the main terminal at the airport at Dhahran I saw a person chained to a post in front of a sign in Arabic. He had a plaster cast where his ear used to be. This appeared to be "normal" for the country.

A few weeks ago I read a story about a young Iraqi woman that blew herself up as a suicide bomber trying to kill US troops. The family disowned her, not because of the bombing, but because she left the house without permission and thus dishonored the family. This was "normal" according to their values. How can we fit this family into our value system?
