Baby catbird - what to do?

Posted By James Robinson

This bird looks a little young to be out of the nest. It's getting dark and he's sitting in the garden. Anything we can do for it? There are lots of predators about at night.

Best era for C5?

Posted By James Robinson

Hi, I'm considering getting a C5 OTA primarily as a high power daytime spotting scope. I'll probably look for one used. This scope has been around a while, is there any particular era that stands out, or alternatively is to be avoided? Are the latest model OTAs up to the standard of the earlier ones? Appreciate your insight.

Digiscoping with a C5?

Posted By James Robinson

Hi, I follow this forum regularly and sometimes post photos, but mainly enjoy the superb shots of the regulars. Does anyone have experience digiscoping birds with a Celestron C5? I'm considering obtaining one but can't find much firsthand info from birders. Is it too large/cumbersome? Does the central obstruction show up in photos? Anything else I should know? By way of reference I own a TV85 and Ranger.
Thanks
Jim

Couple of sea ducks

Posted By James Robinson

These are note very good photos but I haven't seen these speices represented. I will go out next week with a bigger scope and try to do better. These ducks are usually a fair distance away.

Scope was a TV Ranger / Coolpix setup with 28mm eyepiece.

Halrequin ducks

A couple more pretty poor shots of Harlequins. These guys are very far away and I am having trouble getting sharp focus. It looks very sharp in the LCD but when I snap the shot its not. Maybe I'm shaking the camera? Equipment was a C5 f10 coupled to a Coolpix.

Harlequin group photo

Posted By James Robinson

Well, I changed my equipment and technique today (thanks for all the pointers). This group photo shot with a TV85 / CP990 on auto macro focus. I increased the ISO to 400 and set the shutter speed manually at 1/250. I think my main problem before was slow shutter. Beautiful sunny day out.

Eider & buffleheads

Not a great photo, but I found this group interesting, male and female Eidger + male and female Bufflehead. This foursome cruised around together quite a while like they were old chums.
