20" Night Sky truss dob

Just got this scope a few days ago, man its big, but still manageable. Its equipped with the Argo Navis and Servocat. I had clear skies the first night and put it on the Trapezium in twilight and easily saw six stars. Wow, this is gonna be a kick in the pants. Then of course the wind came up to about 20 knots and started blowing the scope around! It was a quick first light session :-(

Any electrical experts out there?

My scope is powered by two 7AH batteries which will run the whole system (Argo Navis, Servocat, cooling fans, secondary dew heater) for roughly 2 nights of observing before they need recharging. I have an 85AH marine battery with a 150 watt inverter. If I wanted to charge the onboard scope batteries with the inverter powered by the marine battery how could I figure the efficiency. This would go from marine battery, to inverter, to the onboard 1.5AH battery charger, to the two 7AH onboard batteries. I would only really need to get 2 good full charges of the two 7 AH batteries, which in a perfectly efficient system would only drain the marine battery down to 57 AH, but I know that is not is not the real world case, I am going to try it later this month, just wondering what I could expect. I already have the marine battery and the inverter. I really dont want to buy an extra set of 7AH batteries or an expensive 21 watt solar charger, and I cannot use the marine battery to power the scope directly as the wire running from the battery would wrap around the scope as it slewed. Toucam first light

I finally got my new laptop and will try out the toucam for the first time tonight. I will use a C8 2x ultima barlow for starters. What would be a good place to start for the webcam settings on the moon, saturn, jupiter. So far I am thinking 1/25th sec, 10 fps, gamma near zero and take roughly a 2 minute AVI, maybe only 1 minute for jupiter. Also do you prefer to capture using the toucam software or K3ccdtools? I need to get pointed in the right direction to get started so any help would be appreciated.

Very first webcam image

I took this image of Saturn tonight with a Toucam and C8. 682 frames out of 1243. Seeing P4 to P5. I have not done any post processing as I am still reading the manual. Please feel free to play with it as you wish and any comments are welcome.

First Attempt at Jupiter

This was my first webcam attempt at Jupiter tonight. I still dont have any idea what I'm doing but there is a bit of detail there. I couldnt seem to get any color out of the image, duh, I was in black and white mode. 600 frames out of 1200. C8, 2X barlow, Toucam Pro, aligned and processed in Registax. Seeing P6. Play with the processing if you like, comments welcome.

Yet another Jupiter tonight

I finally got my color turned on! I have some questions for the experts. Seems I got some spots on the chip, how can I get them off? Any help you could give me is appreciated. This is my first night at webcam imaging, or any imaging for that matter, the learning curve is steep! Anyway, C8, 2X barlow, Toucam Pro, aligned and processed in Registax 2. Thanks for any help.

I was my first attempt at any imaging tonight and i was able to get some detail on Jupiter. Its pretty fun, but not near as rewarding as sketching. Taken with a C8, 2X barlow, and Toucam Pro black and white mode.

I finally got a bit better a the processing and was able to bring out much more detail in my best images from last week Seeing was a P7-P8 for the AVI captures.

Jupiter 3.15.04

Tried the webcam on my dob last night in fair to good seeing. I am shooting at F9, 4500mm fl and am looking to get better detail. Ironically, I could see finer detail with my eye using about 300X, I was thinking of getting a 4X powermate which would give me 20" @ F18 or about 9000mm fl, would that do the trick? Thanks for looking.....

20" Night Sky dob @ F9, Gain 0, Gamma 0, Brightness 20%, 1/50 sec. @ 10 fps.
