Jupiter 02/14/04

Seeing was only average, but I wanted to catch this image of Ganymede and it's shadow on the face of Jupiter and the GRS visible also. I keep hoping we get better seeing soon.

SAC 7B

Posted By Paul Maxson

I have been thinking about getting a SAC 7B camera to suppliment the Toucams I have. I was thinking of getting the Peltier cooled version. Besides the benefit of cooling and long exposure (which I might use 5% of the time), what other benefits would I see from this over the Toucam. I'm thinking that the cooling feature would be good since I live near Phoenix, Az and in the summer, even after midnight the temp often is over 90 degrees.

Thanks!!

Most of my imaging is planetary, btw.

Seeing was a bit better at 1am on 2/16 than it was for the 2/14 image I shot. It's not as exciting as the 2/14 image, but still decent. Remember the morning of 3/28/04 (about 7:45-8:15UT)...a triple eclipse on the face of Jupiter!!

New Celestrons

Posted By Paul Maxson

Has anyone had a chance to try out the new feature on Celestron GPS scopes. It's called NeXremote. Supposed to be software you can install on your computer and control the scope remotely. They call it a $99 freebee, but looking at the Ad in S&T (April issue, page 66)the price of the scopes have gone up about $100 as well. Personally, I'm not sure I need anything like that, but I'm curious if anyone has seen it and how well it works.

Saturn in slightly better than average conditions

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here is a link to Saturn shot in slightly better than average conditions. Shot with a Toucam 740 and my C8 at F/25. Details on the image. It turned out a bit better than I thought considering that a storm is approaching.

Jupiter 02/28-29/04

Here is my contribution to the Jupiter-athon going on this weekend. Seeing was terrible at sunset as clouds here near Phoenix, AZ finally cleared. By the time I got out to shoot this seeing had improved. Seven hours later it was totally clouded in again. Now it is again clear...who knows what is next. LOL!!
