Hi Michael.

I use Registax v2.0. When you first open the program,
there should be a choice for settings on the left side
of the input page near the bottom. Ensure the "Colour
processing" and "LRGB" boxes are checked and you should
be rockin'

I presume you were using a barlow as well.

Are you using the autocolour feature (VRecord)?
If so, you might want to consider turning it off
and see what happens.

Fantastic image Rick!

I have used my old Canon AT-1 on my telescope, but I do find focussing (particularly on dim objects) somewhat problematic. How do you accomplish such good focus? Do you have a different focussing screen, or can you view the image on your computer through a link of some sort, similar to a regular CCD? I would think the latter would be the case, but I would like to know.

I need a new SLR to replace the AT-1 and if I can find one that would double for astrophotography, well... that woud be great. Clearly the 10D is a prime candidate.

Sorry for sounding inexperienced, but... I am.

The Cassini division and a cloud band are clearly visible and it's a FAR cry from what an amateur astronomer could have accomplished only a few years ago. In fact, this is better than the many of the images in the textbooks I had when I was going to school in the 70's!

It doesn't matter whether it's a "Wes" shot or not. It's the enjoyment of actually seeing the "real thing" show up on a photo that you, yourself took.

The viewing in Edmonton hasn't been very good over the last couple of weeks. The clear skies hardly last long enough for a 14" SCT to cool down, so it's nice to browse through everybody else's images to see how things are going in other parts of the world.

Is the 201XT a pretty good Autoguider?

For most astrophotographers, it appears that there is a "love-hate" relationship with the 201XT. I have one, and I find that focusing the 201XT is an act in frustration - even though I use the recommended 9mm illuminated reticle. I have tried using it with an off-axis guider as well as straight through the telescope and I have not yet been successful in guiding either of my telescopes (Meade LX90 and LX200GPS). Look around at all options before making a decision. I have an LPI on order, which Meade claims can be used as an autoguider and unlike the 201XT, you will be able to focus that unit visually. It is also cheaper than the 201XT, but I will see what kind of performance I will get out of that. In short, I have not had a great deal of success with my 201XT and am looking for other options.
